I believe that it has been around too long to be considered a fad. It's a nice alternative to that "ring" in male pattern baldness.
As a comparison, I thought that 'rap music' was a fad, and here it is 20 years later.

no I have a lot of hair but have friends that cut their,it a one way street, they say its cooler,and they feel messy ever if it grow a little bit, never knew anyone girl or boy who went back longer (unless actress had too)
