There would be no world peace, humans by nature have characteristics that would in a second destroy the peace, greed, pride, predjuice, ignorance, intolerance, the list is endless.

Have there ever been peaceful societies? If so,what was their basis? How and why was it lost?

What we are doing now is not working, nor will it work, for it
never has worked!

The answer is long. There are "enablers" that need to be in place. We also need to intervene in the process of stupidity we human go thru historically and realize that we keep making the same mistakes over and over. One problem is that we are exporting democracy when our foundation was strongly based, philisophically on individualism, not rule of the majority on an increasing number of issues of law. Here are a few quotes, food for thought.

“It had been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect form of government. Experience had proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.” – Alexander Hamilton, author of the Federalist Papers, 1st Treasurer of the United States, key contributor to the constitution

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess of the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the results that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's great civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence:
from bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to complacency;
from complacency to apathy;
from apathy to dependency;
from dependency back again to bondage.” -- Sir Alex Fraser Tytler (1742-1813) Scottish jurist and historian

To break the cycle, we need a foundation, like the constitutional republic the USA once was. Second, we need to learn, and yes we should be able to do so, how to stay between spiritual faith and liberty, and avoid getting to greed.

Where is the USA? Intellectually, faith is minimized and under assault. Greed and pleasure are the rampant. Our prognosis is poor.

Answers: bring all the troops how, no more foreign aid, send people (doctors, builders, teachers) instead, begin a debate on faith, not Christianity, and rigorously assess the first cause issue, fix philosophy to tie to a first cause, and thus life is purposeful and has a moral foundation, teach kids the "basic" moral foundation, and teach kids how to life morally, so they reach their destiny, re-establish a meritocracy, stay out of foreign affairs, instead, become a shining beacon of hope, get rid of TV ( got rid of it 3 years ago and what a relief), and get invovled in people, sports and community and invovlement.

Peace on Earth? As in Christmas peace on earth? Easy: Everyone just needs to be in an enlightened state of being-which will lead to Joy (whoa, more Christmas-Is it possible that there's more to Xmas than we realized)

Peace on Earth as in no war? Not so easy. War is based on the premise that Justice (i.e. revenge and vindication) is an inherent right. There will be no more war, when people stop suing their ex-spouses for alimony and the extra automobile; when people stop using manipulation and treachery to cause trouble because someone at the office talked down to them.
I know it's hard to see the connection. In primitive societies, survival depended on war. Nations who are in power no longer have to worry about that. Our obstacle to peace is our inability to walk away when someone accidentally runs over our dog; after intentionally running a stop sign.

Well, i am a 'Catholic', i was a pretty devout one until i took my A-Level RE and learned all about other religions, which made me think we cant ALL be right can we. I am a believer in a higher state/being just not sure what.

To have peace on earth, we would all need to believe in the same things, treat each other as equals, compromise on everything and basically live our lives for others.

Sounds good but never gonna happen.

I agree with you.. I don't think world peace is ever achievable but I guess that is what hope is for. I think though, having tolerance and respect will go a long way to making this a better place.

My brother says that things would chill out considerably if everyone was getting l a i d on a consistent basis. I don't think that theory has been checked out empirically, so until it is, it's the best one that I know of. Maybe he meant "world piece" though... I better give this some more thought.

There is that "love one another" commandment that Jesus gave us...
First, He calls the "C" word...commandment. He isn't kidding on this one, He means it.
Then, He lays down the line..."as I have loved you, that you also love one another".
And finally, He qualifies it..."By this shall all men know that you are my disciples...by the love that you have, one for the other."
If everyone would just obey this one command, the world couldn't help but be at peace. People would love one another too much to fight about anything. Think about it...no poverty, no crime, no hunger...it boggles the mind, doesn't it?
Heck, if just the people who call themselves Christians would obey this one command, the world would be a better place to live.
Unfortunately...........................

No Jesus NO peace
Know Jesus, Know Peace

We can never have peace on earth as long as sinners inhabit it. Christ said, "I come not to bring Peace, but the Sword." However the peace we can have is within our souls....that is the only peace anyone will ever attain while living on this earth.

All life will have to be eradicated. That's the only way there will ever be Peace on Earth.
