I see alot of people drink white wine from smaller glasses and red from the huge goblets.

Reds, being warm, have more aroma coming off them and the larger glass captures more of it so the flavor is in turn, stronger. Whites, normally chilled, do not throw off as much aroma so the bowl of the glass does not need to be so large as the chill diminishes much of the flavor/aroma anyway. It's also why a wine glass should never be too full (unless you ordered a single glass, then fill it up!) but it is OK to fill a champagne flute. The champagne is for sure going to be cold and the bubbles carry all the aroma you need up to your nose.

Personally, I like my red in the summertime with a little chill on it and out of a little straight-sided juice glass with a big ol' burger. Tasty.

A large goblet collects the bouquet of a red wine, which is more potent usually. Stick your nose in the glass and enjoy the smell as a ppart of the experience.

Yeah, goblets rock and larger goblets just means less trips to refill it.
