OK, I am engaged and getting hitched June 2007! Well, guy I dated 6 years ago in Highschool is in a graduate school class with me. He caught me off gaurd and asked for my digits, I gave them to him because we used to be pretty good friends. He called, I didn't answere over this weekend..then I miss a day of class, he text messaged me i texted back..then he asked what I was doing tonight..I don't know how to turn him down when he really isn't asking me on a date. But, I know I shouldn't hang out with him, because I used to really like him, and well you know how it goes..some flames never go all the way out. So how do i just tell him that I am engaged, and what do I tell him why I can't hang outw ith him. Do I just tell him that because I used to hjave a thing for him, we shouldn't be friends?? Also, I don't want to act like I am being arrogant and assuming his friendly gestures are laced with romantic feelings!! what do I text him back?!?! Thanks!
P.S. lay off the grammar..

I came across a similar situation about a month ago, Ive been happy in a relationship for about 4 years now, and recently ran into an old flame (used to date for a few months), come to find out he works up the street from me, he asked for my phone number and to lunch, I agreed, thinking we used to be cool with each other so we'd talk casually. So he asked me to lunch a week later, we had a good time, we talked casually as friends, I told him about my boyfriend and he told me about his on/off gf.

My advice is go for coffee or a snack, talk casually as you would an old friend catchin up on each others life. Then bring up the how happy in love you are and about your recent engagment. He will probably be happy for you and you can continue being friends.

Just tell him that you are engaged and you feel as if that you 2 hanging out isnt a good idea since you had feelings for him and you dont think that gas and fire should come together after the flames has already been extinguished.

Just tell him that you feel funny hanging out with an old flame now that you are engaged. Tell him that you are sure that he means nothing by it, but it might cause problems between you and your new b/f if the two of you hung out together (that way it sounds like you are blaming yourself rather than him, and you are not guessing what his motives might be -- you don't have to).

Tell him tonight you're busy but you would love for him to meet your fiance and would he like to meet you and your friends for drinks at a later date.

Don't avoid telling him your engaged. That's dodgy and a betrayal to yourself, your fiance and the ex.

Tell him you are getting married to a man you are deeply in love with and would like remain freinds, but would understand if that might be too difficult for him.

Just tell him that you probably shouldn't be hanging out, tell him your fiance wouldn't understand even if it is just as friends.
