Check the wire/cable running from the antenna to the back of the radio...it might be loose. I had that problem in my car and realized it was just about to become totally disconnected back there....tightened it up and it's all good now.

If the radio is factory it could be the grounding strap on the back of the radio is loose. It could also be the plug for the antenna has the cable coming out. It is common in older vehicles. If it has been replaced with an after market radio it could be feed back from the alternator. A simple in line filter should cure that. It could be the antenna has broke loose on the fender underneath also. If it is a in glass antenna you will need to run a new antenna.

Some times the power or ground wire are connected with another wire and it causes the static. Like some times you hear a buzz at the same time is playing.

The tuner stage in the radio could be bad. The antenna could have some rust or corrosion around the base where it grounds. The antenna cable could be pinched or broken.

1st response has a good suggestion there. If the antenna is not connected, or loose you will have a great amount of signal loss.
