For the ones that answered in a smart-*** way, I was legitamately wondering if the addiction was mental or physical. Not all of us know it all.

It's not that simple. It is not automatic -- that is, not everyone who drinks every day will become addicted. As already mentioned, if you have a genetic predisposition, then yes, drinking daily can lead to addiction. But many (probably MOST) people can handle a drink or two daily without going on to become alcoholics.

Alcohol addiction is the worst of the drug addictions. Withdrawls can kill. The symptoms of addiction are:

• headache
• dizziness
• nausea and vomiting
• shaking
• sweating
• restlessness
• seizures
• increased heart rate or blood pressure
• difficulty sleeping or concentrating
• strong desire to drink to relieve the symptoms of withdrawal

Yes, although alcohol once per day in small doses isn't considered "addiction". Unfortunately, alcoholics rarely stick to small doses (look up "binge drinking").
Withdrawl includes the DT's (de-toxics; shaking, hallucinations, and loss of body heat) not to mention the physical damage to the liver, kidneys, and circulatory system.

Yes alcohol is a addiction if used like that.
Signs are drinking everyday, shakes when not able to drink, and profuse sweating when not allowed to drink.

YES! Alcohol is very addictive. If you feel, you need alcohol just to be able to function normally, to be able to think straight or the like, then you need help, now!

Yep! That's why, when alcoholics stop alcohol, they can go into the DT's (delerium tremens)

Quick screening to see if one is addicted:
CAGE

Have you ever tried CUTTING back on alcohol?
Do you feel ANNOYED when people bring it up?
Have you ever felt GUILTY about it?
Do you ever use alcohol as an EYE opener (first thing in the morning)?

Yes, my niece died at the age of 21 from alcoholism. She started drinking when she was 11 and just couldn't stop. She left 2 kids behind - it's so sad.
