I went to the Petco web site and found this info -
Whitening Shampoos Generally use "bluing," which helps remove the dingy yellowing on white coats and Work by making the hair more reflective, which enhances the natural color of the coat .

Groomers use a shampoo for white dogs, plus there's also a little trick we use which is putting a few drops (and I mean only a few) of liquid laundry bluing in the shampoo. It makes the white sparkle! Also, you need to do a thorough brushing, to the skin with a good quality pin brush to keep the coat looking great.

Sometimes we use a blueing shampoo for white dogs.
I generally wash a dog TWICE, and scrub well, which helps to remove extra dirt.
Also, if the dog is getting clipped the hair closer to the body tends to be whiter than the tips, since the tips are what's exposed to the most dirt. The tips have also had more time to collect dirt and stains. So if you get your dog cut short, it will usually look whiter.

Groomers use special whiting shampoos(which you can buy at wal-mart too) and these are actully blue. They basicaly bleach the dag white, it has no ill effects on the dog, just make sure not to leave it on to long or your dog may turn blue too, due to the shampoo! You can also get the same thing for Horses( at a local feed shop) which may or may not be as cheap as doggie shampoo and which does the same thing!

I have never had a white dog, but I know that groomers use special shampoos for white dogs to make their coats sparkling white. Something kind of similar to white haired ladies who use "blueing" to make their hair really sparkle.
Here's a site I found to buy shampoo for white dogs. I located it by searching for "white dog shampoo."

I can't speak for how well this particular product works, but I have used other products in the Biogroom line and they were fabulous!

I would imagine its the different types of shampoo they use. Some work better than others. The next time you take your dog in and it comes out super shiny white( no brown spots), simply ask them what they used. I would!!! Good luck!!

You make a paste of cornstarch mixed with water and apply it to the spots and allow it to harden and dry. Then you gently comb it out. Had to do this to the white parts of my Old English Sheepdog when I showed him. Removes tear stains around the eyes and discoloration around the mouth and chin from eating.
