is he still active? if not, he may be sick or is affected by your mom's departure.

best thing would be to take him to a vet and have him checked out.

It can be many things. Loss of weight is never good. Especially if it is as sudden as you say and your dog still eats normally.

Go to the VET.

Sure it could be that he misses you Mom. Some dogs mourn to the point of death. When My Mom has to go in the hospital, her dog will go almost 2 weeks before she starts eating again and then it's way less than usual. As soon as she gets back the dog chows! If he does not change in a couple weeks take him to the vet.

I would not worry unless this persists for a long period of time. A family member moving out could cause a slight depresion and cause your animal to lose weight. If it continues to lose weight, take it to your vet to have it checked.

He could be depressed from missing your mom......they really do have feelings. He'll get better in time.
Or...if it's hot where you live, dogs tend to lose weight in the summer months...then gain a bit during the winter.....

I just think your dog needs to adjust to the fact that your mother isn't around. Just play and cuddle with him, hugs and kisses too! His weight should bounce back.

Did you ask a vet or just random people on the internet?
If you care about your pet like you should, you should have already taken him to the vet when you noticed a possible medical problem.
Unbelievable.
