Ok here is the answer lazy, quit watching TV...
The color of the sky is a result of diffuse sky radiation and the fact that air is actually a very transparent blue color[1]. On a sunny day the Earth sky usually looks as a blue gradient — dark in the zenith, light near the horizon (due to Rayleigh scattering). It turns orange and red during sunrise and sunset, and becomes black at night.

On a clear sunny day, the sky above us looks bright blue. In the evening, the sunset puts on a brilliant show of reds, pinks and oranges. Why is the sky blue? What makes the sunset red?
To answer these questions, we must learn about light, and the Earth's atmosphere. http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/sky_blue.html
Why is the sky blue?
A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight. http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/General/BlueSky/blue_sky.html

Because of how it reflects light back. Different colors of light bend at different angles when passing through a medium. If you take a triangular piece of glass, called a prism, and pass white light through it, you'll see all the colors of the rainbow because this property of light. The sky is blue because blue light tends to bend more and tends to reflect back from the atmosphere more than the other colors, which escape into space.

The sky is blue because the lower energy red light from the sun is scattered by the atmosphere. The higher energy blue light gets through and to our eyes.
