Another user asked the question:
Can a person smoke pot and still be a Christian?

And many of you answered "It's a sin."

What exactly makes burning a leaf from a plant a sin?

You all are taking this too seriously. Why is the SIMPLE ACT of brining fire to a leaf, and inhaling it a sin? It has nothing to do with addiction, or legality. Answer me this. No one has answered sufficiently yet.

Also, one of you said bringing chemicals into your body is a sin. If GOD created the leaf, how is it a sin to bring what he created into your body?

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.

If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.

First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.

How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work?

It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.

One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.

Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.

If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.

If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.

How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.

Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.

If this is the case then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.

How likely is that????

Think about it.

The idea of sin is simple nonsense; a lie made up about God by religion.

In Paul's letter to the Ephesians, he instructs us to be obedient. Smoking pot is against the law, accordingly, it is a form of disobedience and sinful.

As for the smoking pot and being a Christian question, Christians sin every day. We are not perfect, as God and Christ are. Accordingly, the myth that Christians don't sin is just not true. Therefore, there probably are Christians that smoke pot and commit this sin. The answer, accordingly, is "yes."

I wonder if the people who said it was a sin also think drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes are sins...do you? Listen, people! You cannot get physically addicted to marijuana. You can become habituated to it, but you can also become habituated to coffee! And it definitely does not make you do things you would not otherwise do. It is the same as alcohol which also doesn't make you do or say what you don't really believe, no matter what Mel Gibson says! Only if Mel was high on pot instead of alcohol, he probably wouldn't have spewed out his tirade. Alcohol diminishes your ability to make judgements and unleashes your inhibitions so you say and do what you really mean without your internal censor. Pot does not do that!

Who said it was? I haven't had one in thirty years but I could use one at this moment. I don't think it is a sin to drank a beer every now and then. I think it is a sin if you drink, and want, or will not keep your family.. I have known people that would spend their paycheck on booze, dope, or whatever and neglect their wife and children. These type people should be invited to a KKK meeting.
If they don't attend go get their A.... and string them up by the B...s

Like it or not, when you accept Jesus as your savior, you give up all rights to what you can do with your body. It no longer belongs to you. It is the property of Jesus.

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Accepting Jesus as your savior is a serious commitment and not one to take forgranted or lightly. It is a verbal contract between you and the Lord. You need to make sure you fully understand what it means to be born again and accept Jesus as your savior, before you take that leap of faith.. Salvation is not "a sin all you want and be forgiven anytime pass" when you sin, and you know what you are doing is wrong, and you do it anyway, you become a reprobate.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Defination for reprobate-From G1 (as a negative particle) and G1384; unapproved, that is, rejected; by implication worthless (literally or morally): - castaway, rejected, reprobate.

It's not the burning of the leaf that is the sin, but the consumption of that drug that weakens your ability to funciton in a rightous fashion. It is a drug and a control substance that satan uses to cause a person to weaken their faith and their walk with the Lord. Your body becomes the temple of Jesus when you are born again. You are not to pollute it with drugs or liquor, etc.

If you want to get high, get high on the holy spirit through prayer. At least that kind of high wont rot your brain cells, and it's not a sin.

Smoking pot is a defilement of the flesh. You are inhaling chemicals into your body and disrespecting the value of life. Furthermore, while under the influence of any drugs, you are not in the right frame of mind. This gives demons the opportunity to enter into your head and screw with your mind. It's like an invitation to them.

i read somewhere that Jesus used cannabis. it has been very popular for 1000's of years, used for all kinds of reasons medical, food, clothing, paper (the hemp plant). it is no sin to smoke pot. Lots of christians smoke pot. its the hypocrite fundamentalist righteous christian types that consider everything a sin. Lots of drunks among these christian types. i'm not a christian, and i do not believe it is a sin.

God put poisonous mushrooms on the earth too. Does that mean you should eat some. Anything that alters your perception of things, including reality, steals your mind away from Godliness which is what you should be focusing on as a Christian. If you are not really worried about your personal walk with GOD then by all means light 'er up.

it has to do with the way jesus said to treat your body (as a temple - meaning take real good care of it) however ive never read a verse that directly says do not smoke certain things. (and they DID have drugs and alcohol back then, it isnt something we invented.)

you can do anything and call yourself a christian. but acting like one is a bit different.
