In my case, when I was about 25. However, your assumption doesn't always hold. There are people on this forum that demonstrate daily one of two things: A) They are not smarter than their parents or B) Forced sterilization is not a bad concept.

The first time I believed I was smarter than my parents was when I was about 15. It lasted until my late 30's, when I realized that not only was I not any smarter than my parents, but I may in fact have been much "stupider", but was too arrogant to realize it.

This is the normal cycle. I'm sure it's roughly the same with everybody.

When I was 14, I asked my mom who her favorite Beatle was and she couldn't name more than 2 of them. She was a teen when they were on the Ed Sullivan Show!

Just a few years ago, she had no idea who John Kerry's running mate was. (I won't call her stupid for voting for Bush, but come on!)

She is smart in her own way, I suppose.

My dad shoots his mouth off all the time and that is why I think I am smarter than him. He hasn't learned how to keep quiet ever and I learned that before I graduated from High School.

Never,, I may think that I'm smarter, but I have sense enough to know I will never be as smart as they are. They have lived a lot longer than I, and know more than I would ever hope to know at this point in my life..........

I was about 15 years old.

My mother is constantly making poor decisions, whether its about men, money, trusting people, or career decisions.

She has been constantly impulsive since her teenage years. She is almost 60.

It's horrible to say but I have known it since I was in H.S.
