because you are. it takes 2 types of people to beleive that fairy tales are actually fact.

1. a child.
2. somone who has been brainwashed into beleiving that theyre true.

now if you dont qualify for 1....then logically youre 2.

regardless of why you beleive you CHOOSE to beleive in fairy tales. so not only are you brainwashed....youre self-brainwashed.

i am an atheist, but i dont believe everyone who is religious is brainwashed. some people are. when u do not know why u believe, and can not answer the simple question: "why do you believe?" with a well though out answer, you believe for no reason at all... you just believe (not you specifically).

and because you are asking this question, i suspect you are one of those religious people who have not been brainwashed, perhaps you have a strong bond with god, or have witnessed a miracle...

if i were to witness a miracle it might persuade me to believe, but until something forces me to believe in an all poweful being, or some undeniable proof presents itself (that holds up to today's science) then perhaps i will choose a religion to believe in.

when u blindly believe... is that not brainwashed?

some people might call it faith i guess.

faith is hard to come by.

kinda like how the american people blindly believe whatever Bush W. says...

Because it takes a lot of character, strength, courage and determination to truly believe in a concept where there are rules, laws, obedience and discipline than a person who believes in nothing. When there is nothing and you are the captain of your own ship you believe even harder you are the one in control. So in all truth who is the one brainwashed. The ones that say we are brainwashed don't have control of their own breath, heartbeat or time when their life's light goes out. So the worst that can happen if I'm wrong when I'm gone from this earth, it's over. Dust to dust. And if I am right, I have help through prayer. A promise of never leaving me nor forsaking me and I know where I'll be. So I am determined that in this case I will forever be brainwashed.

Because we see the devoutly religious forgoing their innate critical thinking skills as soon as the topic of religion comes up. You wouldn't take someone at face value if they told you they'd seen a UFO or travelled backwards in time, but didn't have a shred of evidence to back it up; yet you swallow a nonsensical and paradoxical story about an "infinitely compassionate and loving god" who tortures people forever and ever, even though you've never seen the biblegod or anyone enjoying eternal life after accepting Jesus.

It was one thing to believe in things like Santa Claus or the tooth fairy when we were children; at least there was EVIDENCE to support those claims -- 'cause there those presents would be under the tree come Christmas morning, just as promised! But you're an adult now, and it's time to put away childish things....

Try this one on...
The story happened on a far away planet, long. long ago.
Though their is no solid evidence that this happened, stories have been passed down through generation after generation and translated from language to language by people who didn't like each other and now, thousands of years later this is the version we tell...

The Great Creator Valdar made beings out of clay and put them on a planet. He made one a male and the other a female and then he put a tree near them and said, "Don't eat fruit from this tree." His secret was this... If they ate the fruit they would find out that Valdar was not the REAL Creator but just a regional manager.

The beings got way too curious and they ate the fruit and found out the truth and then Valdar punished them and all their offspring forever and ever.

Some time went by and stuff happened. The beings didn't worship Valdar as much as he wanted them too so he flooded the planet and did all kind of nasty things to the bad beings who didn't worship him enough.

Some time went by and Valdar decided maybe he went a bit overboard with the flooding and the forever thing and so he decided to send his kid to the planet to fix everything by letting the beings kill the kid.

Now the beings worship the kid.

Half of the beings really, really believe all this happened. The other ones who didn't believe the story of Valdar took a big step away from the angry hating "believers".

The believers tried to pass laws to MAKE the other beings believe and they fought wars with the non believers and hated them because they couldn't get everyone to believe the same thing.

P.S. The names have been chaged to protect the not so innocent.

Not everyone just the ones that vomit out illogical tripe they don't even understand because that was what they were told to believe.

EDIT: I believe in God and EVEN I think a lot of you people have been brainwashed as thoroughly as the members of the Peoples Temple Cult at Jonestown.

because a majority of the people who are religious, grew up religiously, never taught anything else, never seen anything from a different point of view. many 5 yr olds dont even comprehend the meaning of a "god" i sure as heck didnt. its just something i grew up with and was forced to believe. of course now i have an open mind and look at everything else and research stuff so im not christian anymore.

People believe that the religious are brainwashed because most of them are. They are brainwashed to carry out the deeds of the "Church". I was born and raised strict Catholic, though I always had my doubts. If you don't go to Church EVERY Sunday, you will be punished by God. If you don't give money to the Church, you will be punished by God. If you swear, steal, masturbate, etc., you will be punished by God.
We are taught to be fearful sheep. Being that the Lord is our sheperd, that's exactly what we all are....SHEEP. Stupid, mindless, blind sheep.
Do you know why I believed what I believed for so many years? Because I knew of nothing else. I wasn't allowed to explore my options. Why should I live my life in fear that I'm going to hell? Why should I refuse to befriend a person who is gay because they are a "sinner"? For God sake, even using birth control is a sin. I'm sorry, but I don't want seventeen children.
It took me many, many, many years to be able to admit to myself that I had lost what many call faith. It took my many, many, many years to let go of that fear of not believing what I was raised to believe. I struggled with that for a long time. In my eyes, and many others, THAT is what you call brainwashing.

People have an innate ability to be spiritual. Religions harness that with a particular story. Most religions harness children into contributing to and working for the religion. But all the stories are made up. That's why.

because they dont understand how someone could believe in religion without being raised to believe it. i guess it comes from a wrong understanding of what religion truly is
because i have an open mind and i did my own independent research and i still have my faith
