Why do I have to dispell this myth all the time from people who assume that the screenname has something to do with Satan?

My gods, are there people who haven't heard that term before?
do they live in a cave?

Devils advocate has always meant someone who helps people to see things from a different perspective than their narrow minds will allow :) which you do! They jump on you for satan worship because their scrambled little brains are pre-programmed to go there when they hear the word "devil" LOL

I appreciate the devil's advocates. They give my the opportunity to test my faith.
May God bless you!
(I would imagine some people see the words devil and advocate together and the knee jerk reaction is to condemn but hey,you know the job was hard when you took it!)

A devils advocate is someone who is taking an opposing side of an arguement just to show the other side of the situation. Some people believe that this is mean or cruel, those people are stupid.
But in defense of those dummies, most people who say "Well, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate..." are assholes. So it might be justified.

Because some people do like to live in caves. Me I like a little sunshine and know that when you play the devil's advocate you like to stir the juices for a little well meaning debate

Most people haven't heard it used properly. I myself wasn't aware of it's earliest use until you pointed it out. I just use it to mean the person who argues a point for an undesireable person or idea in a given situation.

Do you really understand what the word "advocate" means? Start from there, and tell me you don't admire and worship the devil.

Its just an expression when taking the side of the person who everyone is against just to prove a point. It's no big deal. I wouldn't worry about it. It's just an expression.

Nah they are just hanging out in isolated cabins like the unabomber did or on those ranches in Montana where shootouts happen all the time when someone has a liberal idea...
