Well, let me put it this way, I would rather live a clean life die, and find out there is no hell, than to live a dirty life, die and find out there is.

I believe that hell is a man made concept made especially for religions. Without the fear of hell-fire and damnation there would be no reason for religion, because there would be no fear of retribution in this world or another. Follow the money and you will find a religion dangling on the other end...

Not to scare you into religion, because it's a part of religion; but definitely to scare you into behaving a certain way...If you think about it, it's just like Father Christmas (Santa Claus) isn't it? Be good or you wont get any presents becomes be good or you'll go to Hell.

If you believe the words of Jesus Christ then all the answers I can provide will reflect He came to give us a way out. If you do not believe anything He says then nothing said will be of any effect. Jesus spoke clearly in Luke 16. It is a clear picture.
22 . . . the rich man also died, and was buried;
23. And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27.Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
28. For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. (Luke 16:22-28)
It is also called 'the pit' (Isa. 14:9, 15: Ezek. 32:18-21) and 'the abyss' (Rev. 9:2).
Jesus came in love to provide a way and telling us about it is not a scare tatic that is man made to get you to do what? Look at the heart of man today. They have no fear of hell and it certainly has made the world better. Look at what these suicide bombers are doing? They strap bombs to their bodies for what? Hell being made by a concept of man to scare you into religion? Hardly!

I think it was a term first used to describe the city of Detroit and has since been used to scare children into believing in religion.

TOTALLY!!!!!!! I mean come on! Personally I think hell would be where all the cool people are anyway - Elvis, Jim Morrison, Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix - surely you don't think they went to "heaven"! Hell's a big old party where only all the cool kids are invited - not like the heaven parties where all the uptight bible thumpers are sitting around quoting verses and comparing notes on all their goody goody doings while on earth. Think about it - where would you rather be - REALLY

No I don't believe that... because for you to believe there is a hell, you have to believe that religion is true! If you don't believe that religion already, than you would think that hell is B.S.
