One too many times I have read questions on here from mothers who use drugs for whatever reason.
I have a 4 year old son and another on the way... Trust me when I say that I was NO angel before I had my first. I drank, did drugs, stayed out all night, etc... But when I made the choice to give birth and be responsible for someone else's life I gave that all up. Isn't the risk just to high? The risk that the drugs you are doing could kill you? That you could be arrested and go to jail? Even if only for a night, isn't that unfair for a child? How would I teach my sons morals and to make good decisions if I don't make good decisions for myself?
I just don't see how anyone can tolerate or justify this kind of behavior... It is time to grow up!

What are your thoughts?

April, I am not looking down on people for doing drugs! I am looking down on people for not being responsible parents... So stop acting all high and mighty!

I don't expect a pat on the back for being a great mother and doing what is right for the well being of my kids... I love them and that is my job.... But thanks for the "pat on the back" anyways...

I'm sorry all of the above was intended for Lindsey.. not April..

Lindsey... I really have no personal issues with you.. and I respect that you have an opinion.. but I don't need to know someone's situation to know that what they are doing is wrong. There is NO WAY to justify being a parent and doing drugs! There are TOO many risks and nothing makes it okay. People need to NOT make excuses because they had a tough life.. DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOUR KIDS or give them to someone who will..

Good for you, I wish more people would be more responsible for their actions. Especially when kids are concerned. Too many parents forget that they have kids and just want to keep the party going. You cannot raise a child in that type of environment without them being affected in some way or another. I am not saying to stop having fun, all I am saying is think before you do. Keep up with the ideas that you have and one day you will look at your kids and be thankful for the choices you made

well after all that I'm in a bad mood and wanna fight...j/k

I agree with you but I don't understand why you're so angry about it. You know there's nothing you can do for the poor babies that have to endure the stress of drugs which there crackhead mothers take.

On the otherhand I will say that I have had 4-6 drinks while pregnant (not all at the same time) yet I have taken all the necessary measures to keep myself as well as my unborn child healthy. The urge becomes overwhelming and eventually uncontrollable.

Feel free to email me if you'd like to discuss this further as I normally don't read later comments posted after I have read the question.

Amen!!! I think that if someone is going to take on the responsibility of having sex and getting pregnant, they need to take on the responsibility of being a mother. That means putting your child--even, no, especially, your unborn one--first in everything. If that means you do your best to straighten up during pregnancy & then put the baby up for aoption, great. But even if someone doesn't care enough about themselves to straighten up, they should for their kids. After all, it's not just the mother's life anymore.

:) Good question. I don't see how people can justify it either.

Your definitely right, if you make the decision to have a child with no blame to this world, you should be responsible enough to stop even if only for the time that you'll be pregnant, but give that child the opportunity to live there life healthy!

I think it's there problem...not yours. I've never done drugs...EVER...but I don't look down on people who do. I think it's time for YOU to grow up and respect other people choices and stop being so judgmental!

Read your question and tell me you aren't being rude. I'm not better then you, I'm not better then those parents who did drugs. I'm not better then anyone AND guess what? Neither are you...should you get a pat on the back for not using drugs while you were pregnant. If that's what you need I'm sure you can ask your husband and he'll give you one!

It's all good...I knew who it was for! And it is a very good question you pose. I just hate to see people looking down on others. Don't get me wrong, I agree that you shouldn't do drugs while you are pregnant...and you shouldn't make stupid decisions but I mean it's just...you may not know their situation.

Yep. it's all bad. Smoking, drinking, pot, coke, crack. Pot is a drug that is commonly thought of to be a "OKAY" pregnancy drug. I know a girl who got high fairly often when she was pregnant. That poor child had every problem in the book. Allergies, Juvenile Diabetes, Juvenile Bi-polar, and nearly deaf. She will never admit pot was the problem. She blames it on her doctor giving her a c-section, when the baby was in fetal distress at 38 weeks.

I know another girl who smoked pot daily when she was pregnant, and that kid has learning disabilities, and ADD. Of course that is not her fault either.

I think drug and alcohol addictions are a real disease and it is sad when the afflicted person cannot get help.

People need more education about how to get help and how to stop using. A lot of people really just do not know how. It is not as easy as saying, Oh I just won't drink anymore. You wouldn't tell a person with cancer to just not have it anymore and it is all their own fault.

I think they all know they are bad parents and imagine how much guilt they feel.

The saddest thing is a child born of fetal alcohol syndrom. It was completely preventable, but due to the irresponsibility of the mother, the child is damaged for life.

I think all women who use drugs while pregnant should be charged with attempted murder and in the VERY LEAST, child endangerment.

And I DO look down on anyone who uses drugs or drinks while pregnant.
