Right..

There's 3 guyz who go to a restaurant and run up a bill of Rs. 75. They pay for it. So each one's contribution is Rs. 25 each.

The cashier's having a good day and decides to give them a Rs. 5 discount and hands it over to the waiter.

The waiter is confused... how does he split Rs. 5 in three. So he pockets Rs. 2 and gives Rs. 3 back. That makes it a discount of Re. 1 for each.

So... Their contribution now reduces to Rs. 24 which multipled by 3 is Rs. 72 and the Rs. 2 are in the waiter's pocket which makes is Rs. 74...

But wait where is the remaining Re. 1???

Ps. Tried to crack it real hard... but haven't been able to figure out.

Their contribution is 24 each
muliplied by 3 equals 72
remember... the bill was 75, but was reduced to 70
since the bill is 70, and they payed a total of 72
the two dollar tip is subtracted frome the 72 the guys payed, not added. There is no missing dollar.

There are loads of ways to show where your logic has gone wrong. First, you note that the three men together have paid £72 together, which is right but then you say the waiter paid £2 which is wrong. The waiter did not pay two pounds but rather received it which brings the total amount payed to £70 and the barman took the extra £5 off the cost when he gave it back so that makes the price £75-£5=£70, and I already said before that that is the total amount paid. Another way is to look at the transactions in turn and where the money is before and after each transaction. X means man no.1, Y means no.2, Z means no.3, B means barman and W means waiter:- X=25,Y=25,Z=25,B=0,W=0 the barman then receives the £25 from X,Y and Z:- X=0,Y=0,Z=0,B=75,W=0 the barman gives the money to the waiter to hand back:- X=0,Y=0,Z=0,B=70,W=5 the waiter gives back £1 each and keeps £2 for himself:- X=1,Y=1,Z=1,B=70,W=2 and this is where the money ends up. It is easy to see that X+Y+Z+B+W=1+1+1+70+2=75 so there is an illustration and explanation of where the money is, and where you went wrong. ((Note I deliberately don't read previous posts because I like the challenge and this has probably been answered about 10 times before but sorry about that)) ((Also note I do not know what rs. means but I am from the UK so I just used £s as my currency, but this really about numbers rather than units))

The cashier initially got $75. He gives $5 discount. So, the cashier gets a net of $70. Now from this $5, the waiter pockets $2. which is a part of money three guyz paid (why are you adding this with the total amount?). The remaining $3 is given to the 3 guyz. So, each of the guyz now paid $24. 24X3=72. But the cashier didn't get the $72, since $2 was owned by the waiter. So the net result is Guyz paid a total of $72, The waiter pocketed $2, the cashier got $70.

You are looking at the maths involved here wrongly.
The effective bill after discount is Rs 70
The waiter pockets Rs 02
The 3 guys get back a total of Rs 03

Grand Total Rs 75/=

Good one.. There should be a flaw somewhere...

If they get a discount of rs 5 they should pay a total of 70. Now the waiter pockets 2. They guys get back 1 dollar eich. They initially paid 25 eich, get back 1 dollar so they paid 24 eich.

75 minus three makes it 72, the last 2 rs are in the waiters pocket.

There obvioulsy is no missing rs.

They each pay $24, which equals $72, + they each got $1 back which equals $3. $72 + $3 = $75. The $2 tip the waitress got is part of the $72 that they paid.
24 times 3 = 72
1 times 3 = 3
72 + 3 = 75
They each originally paid $25.
$25 times 3 = $75
$75 minus the $3($1 apiece) they got back = $72 the total paid.

three guys paid 75 first but they got 3 back so for them theexpense was 72.cashier gave 5$ back so their expense was 70$.so 72 -70 =2 .$2 is in waiter's pocket.
thus we should think about 70 +2+3
not 72+3
you made the question with confusion
