The both came into existence in 1054 when the split between the Catholics and the Orthodox happened. Before that it was just "the church", not the catholic or the orthodox church. So they have equal (or no) claim on being the original.

Neither really. Both the Orthodox and the Catholics developed from earlier Christians.

Catholic. Orthodox is a branch of Catholicism. I believe all Christian faiths are, btw, from Catholicism.

Orthodox was a much bigger sect than Catholics. They had their capital in Constantinople (present day Istanbul in Turkey). When in 1453 Muslims captured Istanbul, after that there was a shift towards Rome.

the greek orthodox church, for example, have bishops that go back to the bishop of Jerusalem and has an authority going back to Peter

I think the better question is what group preaches the gospel and is most faithful to the word
