Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to cirrhosis of the liver, which is the inability of the liver to perform its normal functions. If your liver shuts down, death comes fairly quickly unless you're lucky enough to get a transplant.

if you have good genes and used to drinking lots of booze, and its in your family, don't worry...have a drink or finish the bottle...I am 81 and drink heavily every day, rum and coke...I drink about 1 litre every day....and feel fine...and go on holidays and make love with my Filipino wife who is only 33...usually 2 times per day...but I always drink with plenty of ice...could be because I am Scottish heritage and had a family of heavy drinkers....or maybe I am just plain lucky.....My dad died at 104....heart failure.

I worked at Molsons Brewery in Vancouver for 42 years. I guess that was a good place to test the liver. We drank on our coffee breaks and they gave us 5 dozen beer per month.
