I just asked a question aboutbeing uncomfortable praying with my father's gf's family. It's not the praying that makes me uncomfortable, but the fact that my father never did anything like that and would never go to church even when I wanted to go. You know, stayed away from relegion as much as he could, but now all of a sudden we're about to eat dinner and he grabs our hands and she starts to pray. We had no idea. I guess after reading the answers, I realized that the problem was with how to talk to my dad about the change and not with the praying.

Do you think this is a change for the better, that he is sincere? Or perhaps you are resentful that he was never like this when you grew up?

You are the only one that can judge what it is that you are feeling right now. If you think he is making positive changes, then it would probably be best to encourage him. If you are hurt that he was not like this when you were growing up realize that you can't change the past, only the future.

well first you should more than likely be happy that there has been a change in his life.
Perhaps one of the best ways is to be real upfront and ask him, why we never prayed before when sitting down for a meal. Let him do the talking. sure you will get some good information from him and he is probably just dying to tell you.

Be greatful that He is turning to God and saying the blessing before he eats. That is actually a good thing. Try not to let satan tarnish this new life your Father is trying to make with the Lord by covering your heart with envy or jealousy, which comes from pain, because it was never done while he was in your home before he divorced your mother. Satan will use your pain to gain what he wants from you. Dont give satan that kind of power over you.
The divorce in your family in itself is a very sad experience. But God has His own way of bringing people to Him. Praise the Lord for your Father reaching out to the Lord now.

I have had the good fortune to share a table with religious people of every faith. I have never joined in their prayers. I have always respectfully explained that I do not pray, and I have never had a problem being accepted.

If she got him too, good. I know it hurts you wanted him to and he didn't but he does for her. At least he is and maybe you can go from there. Take care.
