I can relate to the video games .. I have the same issue with my son. Things that I am currently look @ for Xmas for my son is a video camcorder.. Last Xmas he got a digital camera and just took off with it. He loves to record moments so I wanted to add to that. How about a Chemist set, in addition there are a lot of great books out there for science.

Good luck .. and I know you will find the right thing that will suit your son.

im not sure where you are located but something I got my nephew was six flags passes. I know its not seasonal but that added a little excitment to it he knew it was coming. Or if you have a powerplay or some kind of an indoor arcade type facility.. something that you know he will enjoy but you could do together. Lazer tag passes you know..anything that gets him out of the house and doing something and maybe enough to take a friend with him.

Another suggestion would be to go to let him register at toys r us. I take my daughter there every year and let her make her own list. they give you a gun to register and everything. We have a blast doing it and she picks out some really cool stuff that I had no idea she was into.

hope this helps

Books. Books are the perfect gift for anyone. They are thoughtful, age specific, and certainly a better intellectual investment than video games. If you don't think he'll dig books, think of the subject matter illustrated in his favorite video games (sports, machines, etc.) and buy him some books on those subjects. Show him there are other outlets for his mind.

Thanks.

How about a "grown up" hobby set? My son is after a capentry/woodworking set. Or alternatively, a chemistry set? Altho he has video games, what about the new Nintendo Wii? It's good!!

Would did you get as a gift as a kid that you have saved or would have if you could have? Somehing heart felt and personal. Something personal maybe to do with family. As a kid I loved getting those books that were made with my name printed throughout it. Not sure if theys till have them. Also my dad would get me coin sets of my birthdate or the year we are at. Try to think also of things not on his list he would love that he just has not been expossed to as of yet.

You need to listen to what he's saying... what are his likes and dislikes? Is he more of the sports type or a bookworm?

Give him a catalog or some websites to flip through for suggestions, and have him make a list for you to choose from - that way it's still a surprise for him.
