he already has a job...but his paychecks go to various bills. Also, he needs to pay for a lawyer for some court case. He said without a lawyer he may go to jail. I feel like it's in my hands now....how can I get out of all this?

Tell him that you can't and won't bankroll him, period.
He has to acknowledge that he has a gambling problem and then do something about it (like go to Gamblers' Anonymous). It's like any addiction; the addict has to recognize the problem before being able to begin healing.
You can help him by refusing to feed his illness (if he was a heroin addict, would you buy his drugs?).
It's very difficult because addicts pull all sorts of tricks from out and out threatening behavior to subtle manipulation.
But stand your ground. AA has a support group for people who aren't alcoholics but whose lives are impacted by alcoholism. Gamblers' Anonymous probably has a similar support group. Find your strength and resolve there among others who know exactly what you're going through because they've been there themselves.
Good luck!

even if he wins the jackpot gambling it might not be enough to pay you back with or the cash would probably go right back into whatever he's into,,yup he's using you for money, help him by going around with him just to see ,exactly what the money is spent on and see how to help from there.

You're enabling his habits by giving him money. Right now his habits are controlling him. If you decide to stay in this relationship then you need to practice some tough love and maybe even organize an intervention so that he would get the message that he needs help. Help him get help.

He needs to get a job and grow and be a man. If he is not using the money for good reasons or b/c he is trying to better his self. You need to stop all funds.

Stop giving him money. He's just using you. If you knew that he had a problem with gambling then you shouldn't;don't have loaned him any money.

you can help him by stop giving him money, if he is borrowing money from you that means he has none of his own. If you know he has a problem you need to help him realize it to!

As long as you give, he's going to take. YES, HE IS USING YOU. You are allowing him to use you. His true love is his addiction, you are going to have to find the strength somewhere deep inside and let him go. He is not going to give up that addiction as long as he is receiving support.
