And how does it normally feel afterwards?

Go to an oral surgeon as these teeth can be very hard for a dentist to pull. I had one pulled and she broke a piece off in there (big piece) and it started to hurt a couple weeks ago. She couldn't fit me in right away and neither could the oral surgeon. OUCH. When I finally saw the surgeon, it was much easier than the dentist and he had to actually cut into my gums/jaw.

Get an intravenous anesthetic, it will knock you out, then you wake up groggy, no pain until it all wears off then the crap hits the fan and days later it all starts to ease up.

I've done it both awake and put to sleep. I just had mine pulled a few months ago. I highly recommend that you go to an oral surgeon instead of a dentist. I also recommend that you be put to sleep. When I went to a dentist, he gave me Novocaine. It was the worst pain I ever felt. With the oral surgeon, I did not even know he had pulled it.
