gifting dogs is not a good thing at all wha happens if she doesn't want it, doesn't have time for it later, you break up, moves? once it is not a cute puppy or gets bigger than thought it goes outside without any love or attention or love.

Before you buy anything you should do your homework!! No such thing as a mini doberman and any self respecting dachshund owner would NEVER refer to their dog as a mini winnie. Do yourself and your future dog a favor and do some research first and also include your girlfriend in the process so the 2 of you are completely aware of what you are getting yourself into. You need pick a breed that fits with your life style not because of what people "vote" for here! Go to the AKC or CKC (American and Canadian Kennel clubs) They both have tons of information on breeds.

Personally, I think you should get her the mini winnie dog. My friend has one and he is so cute. Very affectionate, friendly, and has lots of energy.
I’m not sure if this is the best present for her birthday because if there is a break up she might resent the dog and want to give it away. But I highly doubt that because this breed is full of energy and love that she would forget about you and move on with the love she gets from this dog.

I wouldn't get her either a Miniature Pinscher (no such thing as a Mini Doberman) or a Miniature Dachshund..instead if she wants a dog i would let her pick the one she wants be it purebred or mix and let her make the choice based on personality that suits her.
What I would do is find out what size dogs she prefers and locate responsible breeders of these breeds, then for her Birthday I would get her a dog food dish, collar, leash, dog care book, gift certificate to dog training classes and then i would take her to the breeders to allow her to make a choice.

Dogs are very personal so I don't think it's ever a good idea to get someone else a dog. What you can do instead is ask her if she'd like a min pin or a dachshund, then take her to look at puppies at the breeder's and let her choose the dog that most appeals to her.

First you need to look up some information on the breed of dog you are looking for and research information before making the decision. Each breed has a different temperament that you need to understand and be prepared for. Some breeds are easier to train than others. This is not something to take lightly, its like adopting a child. You need to find out common health issues also for the breeds you are looking at so you know what to look for when searching for that perfect puppy.

There is no such breed as a "mini doberman"...there is a Min-Pin. Nothing like the Doberman except in color. Totally different personalities and temperment.

Small dogs tend to be very snippy, I had one and she would not let anyone near me. She would growl, show her teeth then bite....she drew blood from a couple of people, even my own son. Then again she was MY dog so if it gets really attached to her and nobody else it may come back and bite you in the you know what. They can be very aggresive and possesive. Do some research, maybe get her a cat or a pretty beta fish...........

i dont reccomend getting her an animal....only because (and im not trying to jinx anything here) if you two break up then she probably wont want the dog anymore...it would remind her of you. just saying......
but if you still want to get her a dog then get her the mini winnie dog! my friend has one and its the most adorable thing on four *short* legs!

I wouldn't get her one unless you know she wants/or is able to have one. Read up on both breeds and see wich one suites her attitude. Me myself I like the smaller dogs, but that is me. If she is atheletic get her a dog that is atheletic also. If she likes to sleep a lot get her one that likes to sleep a lot. Or in between if she is that. Just find one that fits her personality. Go to american kennel club website and read up on all the breeds especially the ones you are thinking about getting.
My fiance bought me my Boston Terrier for my b-day but he heard about this one dog for 5 weeks straight also. I chose her as soon as she was born for some reason and I would not shut up about wanting her. He suprised me for my b-day and It is almost 3yrs now and I still tell him this is the best present he could ever get me. But as a reminder we were joking and was saying that if anything ever happened between us then we were going to have a custody battle over her. Needless to say we got in a fight a few days ago(the worst one so far) I loaded her up in the car he went right behind me and took her out. She is our baby.
