Building, a house and a barn are each buildings, but a building is not necessarily a house nor a barn.

Building. That could be anything from shack to skyscraper. House or barn is just either big or small but at least you get the idea that it's something someone lives in.

Building. We have fairly concrete perceptions of what a house and barn look like, but a building is generic - it could be anything.

I agree, building has no specific shape....whereas house and barn do.
