If you are prone to sinus infections instead of standing in the shower and sniffing water, use a neti pot. It is a lot easier, safer, and gentler on your nasal passages. BTW - This has been a bad year for sinus infections. For those of you who would like to keep your risks down or just want to lower your chances of catching a cold, lower your asthma issues or getting bronchitis, this is the way to go. Besides the links below, you can also find these at health food stores.

A good cure for sinus trouble is first to hold your nose with one hand and blow thru it, and then swollow. This clears the fluid that has accumulated in your ears. The best help by far though is to get a bowl and fill it full with boiling water. Then put a few drops of olbas oil or any another eucalyptus oil and drape a towel over your head and breathe thru each nostril. This will help clear the passageways. The relief it gives me is noticeable and you can get more sophisticated models in chemist which do the same thing but are more expensive. You could also go to a good steam room at your nearest swimming pool or sports club and achieve the same results.

Ok listen I work in a HOspital and the top ENT has given me a secret. When you go into the hot/warm shower Cup your hands and slowly breathe in the warm water until it fills your sinus cavities. You will feel pressure and a little pain, when this occurs Blow out the water from your nostrils. Repeat this no matter how it feels (Be Careful you dont swallow the water, cuz then you will get the Water up the nose feeling) It will be a little umcomfortable the first few times. I know I went through it. Then your body will learn how to regulate the water or liquid level in your sinuses and sinus infectins will be no more!

The only way to get rid of a infection is by antibiotics or it will come back. If it does come back, then there could be an underlying problem like tonsilitis or something.
If any of the stuff is coming out bright green or yellow, that means that you stand a pretty good chance of having an infection. Also, allergies could trigger it, if things aren't draining properly. Also, try taking some kind of decongestant, too.

Sinusitis treatment using Garlic and Onion
The use of pungent foods like garlic and onion is one of the most effective remedies for sinus problems. One should begin with small mild doses and increase them gradually. Beneficial results can also be achieved by adding these herbs in moderate amounts to regular meals A cold application over the sinus will give great relief, while alternate hot and cold applications also prove beneficial. Take pans of hot and cold water, bathe the whole face with hot water as hot as you can bear-and then apply cold water for a short duration

Inhalation of steam, proper sleep and adequate rest
Nasal inhalation of steam for five minutes every hour will also give relief. Plenty of sleep, adequate rest, and fresh air are essential in the treatment of sinus trouble

The first thing you need to do is get in a shower as hot as you can stand. While in the shower inhale some of the water up into your nostrils it will open them up. If you dont have a shower, put a pan of water on the stove and when it starts to steam put a towel over your head and inhale the steam. After that take a small towel, wet it with water as hot as you can stand, ring it out, lie down and put it over your eyes, forehead and nose.
If all of that doesnt help you really need to see a doctor and get some antibiotics.

Rub some vicks or methalatum under your nose then put a hot wash cloth over your nose. The menthol and eucalyptus will open your sinuses and help them drain. Also, Robitussin makes a wonderful sinus medicine.

If your sinuses are infected then you have to take antibiotics. otherwise it may turn to worse and your sinus pores may have to be cleared through an invasive procedure. Think antibio is better than that...sore throat and cough are just symptoms of sinus infection...take care..

go to a doctor! if you don't it usually gets worse. when i finally made a trip to the doctor after dealing with a sinuitis for 2 weeks i found out that it spreads, which later turned into a ear infection and can get worse. they will give you antibiotics that you need.
