If you don't have symptom control with over the counter medication, then you need to be evaluated. One possibility is that you are misinterpreting your symptoms and treating the wrong thing, another is that you are on the right track, but your reflux is worse than you thought.

Reflux is a very common problem. There are a variety of ways to treat it, based on an evaluation of why it's happening.

This book is probably the most informative and practical guide on the subject of acid reflux and heartburn that I have ever read https://tr.im/acidrefluxcauses
I was prescribed Lansoprazole which was brilliant but after two years of aching joints, extreme muscle pain which the doc gave me cortisone jags for, with some research I discovered the drug Lansoprazole was causing these rare side effects but it was I who diagnosed it NOT my doctor, I came off the drug 2 months ago, changed my diet and discovered just eating an apple stops any acid reflux, I eat an apple before bed, brilliant no acid, any time I feel the slightest sign of reflux I simply eat an apple. Apple juice is not that good nor is anything else I have tried including honey at stopping reflux.

Perhaps it would be best to simply give up the acid reflux problem! I take garlic and cayenne pepper capsules, put cayenne pepper on ALL my food, even sandwiches, AND I stuff my dirty rice and even hamburgers with cheyenne flakes. I now no longer have acid reflux ... or perhaps it helps that I don't have a snack before going to bed. Nolte is right ... the Boniva one is the best. How about the one they just had me on for blood clots ... Lovenox. It didn't really make me Love n Ox but I am always coming up with new jokes about the name. Perhaps it means something in French (where it's made) ... or not. :-) I AM Dartagnon Alive and Well
