I took phentermine years ago prescribed by a non military doctor. Now I am in the military and was wondering if any military people on here knew whether or not it would be allowed for me to take it. If I got it precribed from a civilian doctor would I have to inform the military? It's the only way I've ever been able to lose weight but I don't want to get in trouble for it.

If you are currently taking it, you should have it entered in your medical record for the military. Even OTC cold medicine should be in there. Some of them do have items that will show up on a drug test. If it is not in your medical record, your considered positive ans are charged for it.

you don't have to inform the military, but you should. I don't think any weight loss meds are illegal. Why don't you try to get a copy of that paper (from when you first joined) that had all the disqualifying meds on it. Or just call your local recruiter. They will tell you!
