For his legs: Use a set of steps. Put right foot on steps so that knew makes 90 degree angle. Then raise left heel and lower until it starts to burn. Switch sides.

To increase the effectiveness, put left foot on edge of book. When lowering the heelo, lower it past the edge of the book.

Pushups are great and if he has access to a chin up bar, chin ups are great. As for the lower back part, that will tighten up and he'll lose fat there the more muscle he builds the muscle will begin to burn these fat stores. It takes time for muscles to tone and get definition, so what he's doing is great. Just keep encouraging him so he doesn't stop.

Dips are great for building the lower pectoralis muscles. Have him try doing squats and 40 yard sprints for his legs and for his butt. Definition and vascularity comes has body fat is reduced. The only way to be defined is to reduce the fat. Period.
