I get so infuriated reading answers to religious questions. Christians thinking that their religion is the only way to "get salvation" and things like that. People condemning Islam and Muslims as "terrorrist pigs". (Actual quotes from this website)

I am an athiest and I believe that your religion is your choice and I hate people who use religion as an excuse to get at people.

Religion, as far as I'm concerned, is the root of all this world's conflict - but at least I don't press my views on people.

I'm sorry, I did neglect to say that I'm talking about a minority.

Very sorry.

Sadly...wars and politics hinge on it. It should not be excuse for attacks. But it is.

Now wait.... Religion is not, per say, the root of all conflict. Ego is. And you're statement is a little too all incompassing, grouping the good in with the bad. I say I'm a Christian by faith and by upbringing. But I also see the value in other spiritual paths too. (I don't particularly think the various paths aren't trying to describe the same spiritual evolution we are here to pursue.) In fact, I personally think the reason some "Christians" hold the position they do is because they just don't have a clue what Jesus was really here teaching.

I will agree that with your sentiment on one point. I'm not a big fan of organized religion, because people who don't know better, use the beliefs of a particular religion and their affiliation with that religion as justification for some pretty dark actions.

I said it before on this site and I say it again, more wars have been fought in the name of religion than any other wars.
I am a Christian but I think if they would have stayed out of the other countries and not trying to bring Christianity to every corner of the world, we'd be better of. The Muslims are trying to do the same, anyone not being a Muslim is an infidel and they feel the need to convert everyone just like the Christians did hundreds of years ago and still doing it with missionary work in the jungles.

If you truly believe that religion is the root of all this world's conflict, then you should not be so tolerant of it. Religious zealots DO press their views on other people. As long as no one fights back, the masses will submit to their will.

Just look at Iran. Today, the president demand that students put pressure on their schools to expel secular and moderate teachers. That is the future of a society where religious zealotry is tolerated and the future of the world if no one stands up against Iran.

really, BUT you did say and I quote "Religion, as far as I'm concerned, is the root of all this world's conflict - but at least I don't press my views on people." OK you are right you are not making fun of any religion, just all of them including atheism. Which is a belief in the non existence of God, thus a religion.

I agree - but it is a two way process.

There are some who just wind up the Christians (with silly or potentially offencive questions).

Then the Christians rise to the bate and this causes entertainment. I am a Christian but would not preach my beliefs upon those who did not ask for my opinion, and would never convert somebody to my beliefs (or knock on somebodies door and talk about God).

If people want to know and believe they will do their own research or go to church.

I agree. I think some people need religion and get comfort and good morals and other positive things out of it. I agree that religion is a personal thing. I also agree that it has caused most of our wars and other "evil" things. I believe religion was founded for positive purposes and some evil people just maipulate it and make it into something that is hurtful.
I do feel however that some religious people make non-religious people ( like you and me) feel like it is wrong to feel the way that we do even though I would never make someone feel like their views are wrong, some people make me feel like I am wrong for not sharing thiers. I am a good and moral person, just because I do not beileive in certain relgious theories does not make me a bad person. I should not feel ashamed but people try to make me feel that way.
Great question!

I am a follower of Jesus and agree with your statement, mostly. I believe the fundamentalist maxim of "believe what I believe or it's damnation for you" has been the catalyst for many of the world's atrocities: Shoah, Crusades.
Incidentally, not all Christians are so fundamentally oriented. God saves according to God's will, not people's, so many Christians believe that faithful Muslims, for instance, work into God's plan for salvation.
Please continue to get infuriated; it's the only way anything in the world: religion, politics, civil rights, poverty, whatever, will get any better.
Peace to you.

I do see what you're getting at, Hun, and I agree with you, up to a point...but there is a problem with your reasoning.
Terrorists don't really care if you are religious or not, or how you feel about pressing your religion (or lack of same) on other people. That's all very fine, but, when a terrorist kills you, you are just as dead as if you were a religious fanatic. Personally, I don't want to be blown up, or have my head sawed off.......

Religion is the first form of mind control. It keeps people in line. Unfortunately, one of the results of religious indoctrination is that if you don't agree with a point of view then you are against that point of view. And that leads to conflict.

So, yes. I agree that religion is a main source of conflict in this world. But others include money, resources, race and culture.

In answer to your question...I do not think the only way to get salvation is by being in my religion.

There is a plan of salvation. It is not my plan. It is not a plan that belongs to Christians. It is a plan that is for every single one of us. If we choose to believe otherwise that is our option. We all have free agency/free will to choose as we please.

I do believe in Heavenly Father. You don't. I have no problem with you believing the way you do because I refuse to judge you. I would ask the same of you...do not judge me because I believe differently from you. I also believe that our Heavenly Father loves us all. It is not up to any individual to decide who is right or who is wrong.

Finally, hate is a strong word. There are people that walk this earth that are cruel and downright mean. They torture and kill others with no real reason other than they have the power, at that moment and time, to destroy a human being. These people come from all walks of life...that includes race, religion and country.
