if a boyfriend was clueless about buying gifts and doing 'nice' things for u once in awhile, but would rather just buy u things when u asked to make it 'easier'...would that suffice? or would u rather be w/ someone who KNEW to do things for u, whatever they were, as his own idea?

I like it when my husband and I are out and I see something, comment on it 'I love this' or 'this would be nice for...' and then he buys it for me. Because this means that he cares, and is doing something for me that he knows I will enjoy. I like it when he goes out later and buys it, too, that's more of a surprise. My feelings when he buys me something on his own is thumbs down. I never tell him, but it's just not what I would choose. The wrong scent from Bath&Body, a flower in a bouquet that makes me sneeze...stuff like that. I love that he tried, and that he was spontaneous and romantic, it is the thought that counts. And so, I thank him with sincerity, use the bubble bath once or carefully remove the eucalyptus from the arrangement as I put it in the vase. Not all people like to shop, or are good at choosing gifts, it doesn't mean that there's any less romance in the thought.

In terms of doing stuff for me, that one I can't get around. My man has to know to carry the heavy stuff and open doors and stuff. I think I am a person who enjoys taking care of others' needs, and I expect a fair amount in return. If I ask him to refill my cup while he's up, I expect him to out of courtesy. His running my bath while I clean up the kitchen so that when I get done, a hot tub is waiting for me---that's romance. I feel much more cherished and special when he sees my needs and attempts to fulfil them than by anything he's purchased.

I would LIKE for him to know to do things, but most men don't work like that. You have to decided what is important to you. Does your man treat wonderful in every other way? If so, don't worry about this little thing. Or do you have many issues with him? Also, after enough time, you can teach (for lack of a better word) him to come up with, and use his own ideas.

Some women like to select their own gifts and others want to be thought of..choose what you like best. Only you can decide for you.

it is sweet because if u let them buy it then u could end up with something that u don't like so i think that when they ask it show that they care because u both win that way he feels good and u get something that u like or need but it up to u

I believe the man should automatically do this. If I have to tell him to buy me a birthday present then he is not into me.

Hmmmm....to me it doesn't really matter as long as I get something nice of my own choosing from him.
