I don't get how Christians can vote for Republicans, particularly since if you think about how Jesus tells us to live our lives he was obviously an anti-establishment socialist. Giving to charity, doing good for the sake of doing good, throwing out all the corruption from the temple, hanging out with a bunch of dirty guys and prostitutes...do you really think that He'd be on George Bush's side on things considering what scripture says?

Don't forget how the book of Acts commands that all members of the church give everything they own to the church so that it could be distributed to all as they had need. It's kind of the definition of Communism. It's interesting to me that Bush said he developed his economic policies after the book of Acts. Did he even read it?

You make a good point. It's just another example how the religious right takes the Bible and makes it say what they want it to say in order to meet their own ends. Everyone does it of course, but it is insideous when a particular group presents their interpretation as the only teneble use of Scripture.

Then look at the churches and how they dismiss these passages. Churches, in general, tend to be more focused on building new buildings, instituting new programs, and spending a lot of money on itself while many of its members and those in the surrounding community continue to be in need. It is hypocracy at its highest level, but that of course is just my own opinion.

You got it backwards.

In socialism, you do not have a choice on contribution, it is forced.

How about the history of socialistic countries, and how fast they deteriorate and the good people flee? Just read the history. Socialism was not applied wrong. It is wrong.

How about the parable of the talents where Jesus complimented the capitalistic wealth growers, gave them more, and threw the unprofitable servant in hell, with great disgust?

Why has Chistianisty been so strong in one of the most anti-socialistic countries? Why is religion the first thing to kill in socialistic and communistic countries?

You have been misled. Do not listen to the rhetoric, which is meant to gain followers or to confuse the facts. Look at results, look at history, use some common sense, and you will be amazed, as I was.

If you want to put it like that, Jesus was communist. Socialism is a step on the way to communism, but socialism is supposed to be a violent period of time when the workers kill off the remaining bourgoisie that escaped the first round of killings in the original worker revolution.

Communism is the last event in which everone left over (including prostitutes and "dirty guys" as you put it) has felt what it was like to be greedy and selfish and to have to work for nothing, so they have learned to share everything and to work to the best of their ability. That is what Jesus would have been if you absolutely need to put a political label on him.

If you study the bible, you will find in the old testament a very communistic viewpoint in regard to the structure of society. There is no doubt that Jesus would be a total socialist. He cared about people, not things.

But the fire and brimstone "kill - everybody - who - displeases - me" version of Yahweh is Republican (the one Christians discreetly disown). Jesus was a socialist and a progressive, slightly left of Edward Kennedy. Essenes (Jesus was an Essene rabbi) taught reincarnation, karma, vegetarianism, baptism, messianic divinity and sharing of community property.

Jesus was not a socialist, not even close. He never taught us to give all our money to an overly burdensome bureaucracy who then distributes it as it sees fit. On the average, conservative Christians(republicans) give more of their personal wealth to help others, are more involved in work to help others (not tree hugging), are trying remove the corruption in government, and work with the poor and needed in a meaningful way. Apparently, you have drunk a little too much of the liberal kool-aid.

Great question. That's what George Bernard Shaw said, and I think he was right.

No, that would be Noah. His Biological classification system and ship engineering and construction skills were centuries ahead of their time.
