By allowing their child to do whatever they please, parents are teaching them that everything goes. The child is not necessarily any worse then the next kid, their parents just haven't taught them the right behaviors.

If a child in the store screams, and the parent gives them candy to keep them quiet, then the parent is teaching the child that screaming is an acceptable, and positive behavior. So, the next time the child screams and the parent tells them no, the child becomes confused and hurt and ends up in a tantrum and completely unhinged. Then the parent gives in again, and so on and so on.

Three years down the road the parent is calling Nanny 911 because they don't understand why they have a 'spoiled brat' and they find out that their children are only doing what they were told by their parents actions.

Children are spoiled brats because parents take no initiative to discipline their children. They let them have their way and doesn't know how to say no to them. a spoiled brat is a child that doesn't know the meaning of the word "no" I hate spoiled brats. They usually turn out to be what their parents would never expect because they are not used to hearing no or gettting turned down.

I'm thoroughly spoiled. But I don't ask for things and I've never pouted or had a fit because I didn't get something. I knew if I didn't get it there was a reason. The parents who say one thing and do another are the ones who create brats. If they say no candy then just give it to the kid because they're pitching a fit that child has now learned that they'll get whatever they want if they're bad enough.

I think some children are spoiled brats because they're never told no. Parents create spoiled children by never telling them no, giving them lavish gifts for no reason, overloading gifts on holidays and birthday.

To me, a spoiled brat is a child who has everything, so when they're given something, they're never appreciative, and unless it's worth $100+ they don't even care.

I believe the definition of a spoiled brat is a child who feels that his needs ALWAYS supersede the needs of other people. All children need to occasionally get their wants but that is so easy to over do. Children also need to be taught that other people's needs are important. One way of teaching children this point is to have them do volunteer work without any expectation of pay or reward.
