I'm a year round 5k runner. I've run a 50k before (31.0 miles), in just under 3 1/2 hours. My usual 5k time is between 16 and 16:30 depending on the course. A tip to a starter- walk first. If you're looking to lose weight, train for distance, not for speed. Figure out a mile loop that passes your house. Run the loop, if you feel you can do it twice, DO IT! Also watch your diet. Eat an adaquate amouth of carbs, as well as 1-1.5 grams of protien/ pound of body weight. email me if you have any other questions.

i used to run cross country for the school. about 7 min. per mile, 3 times a week for about 10 miles.but that's when i was younger. for beginner, jog as long as you can, then walk. then jog again when you catch your breathe. keep a close watch on the time of jog, so next time, you try to beat your jog time. start with a mile, next time (3 days later) go for longer distance.

I've been a runner for over twenty years. My advice is to start off slow, maybe be a mile or two a few times a week. Try that and see how you feel in a few weeks. I gradually kept increasing the distance until I could run six miles, four times a week. Do you run on the street or a track? I started on a track because it was easier to guage my distance, but that gets old after awhile. Good luck.

You can jog and eat to lose weight or gain muscle, depending on your goal you should eat certain foods and run certain amounts. You should start at about 1 mile then add about a 1/4 mile a day until you get to about a 4-5 mile jogs, add or take away whatever makes you comfortable!

I dont jog...I run....and I havent run in a while, but could probably run up to 6 miles at a rate of 7-10minutes per mile

beginners should stick to 1-2 miles and not worry about time, just finishing the distance....then slowly work up to time and more distance....good luck

I'd start out at 10 minutes and work my way up to 30 minutes. You don't get any benefit unless you do 30 minutes. As you get better at it make sure you keep jogging for 30 minutes instead of stopping at the same place as you did when you first started. 30 minutes is the magic number.

I jog one mile at five miles an hour in 12 minutes. After that, I'm dead tired, but I could probably go on. My advice is to take it slow-- you don't want to kill yourself the first day and never want to jog again!

I can run 2 miles in 12 minutes. Start out slow and buy really good running shoes. Also, realize that's it's going to take a long while to work up your endurance. Good luck!!!
