You're so lucky! I swear, my male said "Mama" once....but since I haven't heard it since, I'm chalking it up to a weird meow, lol.

I have had two cats that have talked.
One was a stray orange tabby who could say his name. His name was Orion. His full name was "Orion the Mighty Hunter," but he could only say his first name.
I don't think he knew it was his name. I believe the cat thought it meant "food."
Years, before, we had a very vocal siamese. Most cat owners know that cats can vocalize their need in distinct forms, much as babies have different cries for different needs.
This cat very clearly said, "Wanna go out!" when he wanted to be let out. He only used this meowl while pacing in front of the door. He never used that particular vocalization at any other time. He made lots of noises for other reasons, but not that one.
I believe this cat learned it at a fairly early age. He would pace by the door, yowling and my wife would squeek. "Wanna go out?" She would do this every time and I think the cat just started to mimic her sounds.

Yes, We have three wild cats that have adopted us. They can talk and they understand commands like sit, out, come here, lie down. We do feed them and they come at set times for their meals. They never jump on the furniture because they learnt what No meant when they first appeared. They wait patiently and trust us implicitly and they talk to us in little quiet one syllable words.
Believe it or not, in spite of all this they won't let us actually stroke them. But they will take food from our fingers and play with toys we hand them.
This has been going on for nearly 8 months.

No you are not crazy. We have three cats and they talk too. Don't you think it is interesting that they communicate a great deal with humans with their meows and other sounds but the the three we own don't bother to use those sounds with each other.

I don't think you are crazy. I don't have a cat, or a pet. If you say that your cat can talk, then you think it can. It doesn't matter what other people say. For all you know, you could be right!

Oh yeah they can! I doubt though they know exactly what they are saying though; I believe however they pick up on sounds and mimick them from hearing us. They are creatures of habit, and will pick up on the words we use most, and then they begin to mimick those back to us in cases concerning what they desire. Ours however does not say words, but his meows are words in his tone and pitch. He has a meow for his kitty milk (special kitty milk purchased at the petstore), for mommy and for daddy, and for hello and no. So either way, they can speak; even if it is words that are audible to us...or just meows that reflect what they are feeling.

he's trying to tell you he wants attention, he loves you. Cats don't see people in terms that you are their owner they thin of you as a friend, so It's like a friend coming up and trying to tell you something like " I am bored pet me feed me, GET ME TOYS! oh can you pick me as best answer? i could use the points, good luck you are lucky to have a cat that talks to you it shows that he/she cares!

Yes I think they can but maybe im mad as well. Our cat makes noises to the birds (yes hes not normal I think) like a clicking noise.
But also now hes nearly 2 if hes naughty and I tell him off (sound like his mum now) my b'friend will then say whats up to him and he will do a continuous meow as if he is telling him I shouted.

Some cats just make funny meows and their owners cultivate it when it happens.
However, my cat has about five different meows used for different situations.
She chirps when I start petting her, she makes a surprised meow when I startle her, and makes a pestering meow when i get home from work.
