With its impossible stories and imaginary friends, that's all religion really is -- societally sanctioned insanity.

The bible is a book; it can’t make anyone do anything. If someone has the predisposition to have a certain state of mind, then this phenomenon can be expressed through many means, no just religious. For instance, a mind can be imprisoned by societal pressures, fear, gender roles, and our own personal histories, or tragedies. In one way or another we are all mental prisoners of some thing. There is no such thing as a fully freed mind. Therefore, we cannot reach the mind’s full potential. Both you and I have our restrictions as well.

The Bible doesn't trap your mind. God gives us free will. No one makes you pick up a Bible and believe. Your choice is either to believe or not; serve God/Jesus or not. So, my answer is NO. The Bible does not trap the mind. If one goes mad or crazy about what they've read in the Bible, they need to seek God for understanding and deliverance.
The Bible doesn't have mental imprisonment. Television has more of a "hold" on people's minds than the Bible. How many people pick the Bible up daily as having a free choice to do so? Now how many people actually are attached to watching the infamous "one-eyed demon" (television).
The Bible is a tool to set you free and allow you to see God's truth and will for your life, it can't imprison.

How do you know that the mental imprisonment is not contained within the guise of anything seperated from God. What's the difference between Atheism and the Zoo.
Do you think Atheism traps the human mind, restricitingmankind's natural freedom, and also driving some people into madness? Would the majority of people be happier if they were set free from Atheism's mental imprisonment? Would Atheists who are set against God be set free if they allowed themselves to be open to the truth rather than to use an intellectual smokescreen to hide them from God?

I think some people (I said some, not all or most) read the bible and accept its teachings so that they don't have to find the answers on their own. For these people, the bible represents a safety blanket that protects them from the trials and dangers of independent thought. I think such people are happier accepting the bible and would have trouble surviving without it.
For some others (not all others, just some others) by reading the bible, they have narrowed their view of the world and restricted their capacity for new and creative thinking. For these people, I would say that the bible does constitute a hindrance in their lives. though they might say differently.

The Bible enlightens rather than traps. True wisdom come from God. People think they would be happy, but would they really? If people were free to do and what ever was right in their own eyes, what would happen to our society. What if people were tolerant of all sins even murder? It would be chaos. No, cults may imprison, but Christianity sets free. "If any be free in Christ, he is free indeed.

No, I don't think so, a matter of fact it gives you freedom. And you can see the world as it is, not as it is shown. Its nothing mental, it has a lot of wisdom and the bible, talks straight, there's no psychology there. And doesn't even talks a lot about the mind, so its just a manual for mankind. But I believe there are fanatics around that take every word literally and their behavior is not that well.

Interesting comparison I've not heard before. The "Bible" as you put is is SUPPOSED TO control people's minds. Control is a form of imprisonment, yes.
More precisely, it is religion that controls people's minds. The Bible (Koran, whatever) is the so-called proof for the religion. Yeah right. And we all know the Easter Bunny lays eggs. Gee, wouldn't that make him a reptile? But, I am not allowed to question. The Easter Bunny lays colored eggs. Believe it or suffer eternal torture. You have been warned!

I was trapped in addiction to anything that made me feel good for a while, then tried to control me. I hated too much, ate too much, did too many drugs, obsessed over sex.... so many things kept me imprisoned. Faith in God set me free, and the Bible helps me know God and myself better. I often want to go back to the old things that brought a season of pleasure, but moths are drawn to a flame that kills them. I would rather not behave like a moth.

Wow, that's interesting.
I guess some people disagree with you. But I understand in a way too. I guess everyone needs that mental imprisonment, otherwise everyone would be going around doing stuff without thinking deep inside, that what there doing is wrong and they'll get punished in after life or whatever.
