Jinn is the Arabic/Quranic word for Ghost. There could be holy Ghost or evil Ghost. So there are Muslim Jinn, Hindu Jinn, Christian Jinn etc. They are a Real Creation of the Almighty. Iblis(Satan) was a Jinn and he has his hosts(armies) in the present world. This creation is not superior to Humans, except that they can overwhelm the thoughts of humans, and, thus indirectly cause a harm to the overwhelmed human by the human's own acts, detrimental to humanity. In Spirituality, there are rituals and exercises for exorcism, if a weak human has been possessed. Surprisingly, but truly according to my personal experience, the rituals in Muslim Spirituality are quite similar to the Christians'. They can be friends or foes, if there be a contact. More on this subject cannot be said on a public forum... like ours, on this Yahoo/ 's .

A Jinn is a mythological creature something like the Angel Gabriel in Christian mythology. It is often portrayed as a creature bent upon mischief, tempting humankind into paths other than that of faith. Allah allows the Jinn to exist to test men's resolve, but should a Jinn get too out of control, Allah has been known to destroy the Jinn. They look and sound however they think will allow them to tempt and seduce you from the path of righteousness, so if Robin Williams could seduce you, that's how the Jinn might appear to you. Beware the Devil in blue jeans!

Jinn is perhaps a bacteria or a virus that takes over your body and imposes its will on your body temporarily? Yes, they can take over a cat too... if the virus is strong enough, the cat can even die in some cases due to the "possession".
I hope this makes sense to you. Also think of gravity as an angel of the Most High. Imagine that Light is another angel of the Most HIgh. Angels do not have to be fluttery cherubs.
AND YES, you can lock up a genie in a test tube of a laboratory!!
