Most western countries have flat population growth or even declining populations. The US is conspicuous in that its population is actually growing, and much of that is due to immigration (legal and illegal). This is not necessarily a great thing but it is not necessarily a bad thing.

Almost all other western countries (Germany, France, Japan, for example) are facing serious problems with replacing workers to maintain their economies. The US is not. These same western countries have big deficits looming to pay for retirees' benefits and pensions. The US is much better off in this regard.

The reason why I can expect to receive Social Security in a few years is because of the US's population growth, legal and illegal. Really, I'll be retiring on the backs of illegal workers that I will never meet. It's a sobering thought but I can live with it.

And the legal children of the illegals you detest will be the next generation of highly productive and well-educated workers, preserving the US's economy well into the future. They'll pay for your retirement, too.

If all 12 to 20 million illegals left today, they wouldn't be missed. The USA would continue.
I get tired of pro-illegals saying all Americans are sitting on their verandas drinking mint julips while the illegals do all the hard work. What a bunch of baloney.

Welcome to all legal immigrants. Goodbye to illegals. They're lawbreakers and border sneakers and they don't need to be here.

They have given us hours of entertainment on this board.
And to add to Rox's statement, they keep the Border Patrol busy too.
I think they also have made our Government-sweat a bit since they had to address what they didn't want too.

The labor stuff is Baloney-we all know that. They need us not the other way around.

Hmmm, one good thing...I've got two.One is 5yrs old and the other is 4yrs old.Two of the cutest little boys you've ever seen.Yup,their illegal father did two great things.

I understand the ploy against illegal immigration. And i think something should be done to fix the problem, but being sarcastic and hateful just aren't the ways.To be against something is one thing, but to be mean is another.

My husband is at the moment still illegal. We are working on that as I write this. But,well,if he was legal,I can't figure out how he would be any better or worse than now.Legality doesn't automatically make a person good.Hmmm, sorry, don't get it.

If these Mexicans are working less then they should be paid what hell are we suppose to do. Hell it's free country. All these Mexicans like to complain but none seem in any hurry to leave.
First they pick fruit, now it's roads, houses, bridges, soon they will breathe air for you, just who does pick the fruit ?

You would rather their labor substitute -- American teenagers and college students -- serve coffee, McChickens, nanny, demolish and landscape -- at inflated wages -- than pursue internships and office jobs?

The consensus in business education is that the United States workforce must become more creative and knowledge-based to compete well with China.

Modern day illegals or the english and Irish that came here? Come on who cares really. Ask why your country doesn't give as much mullah to Mexico as they do Israel and maybe we would not have an "illegal" problem. Next figure out why the DEA is a cash business. Or how much oil is more important than life. Come on, Mexicans or the least of this world's problems. Someday we may need them when someone gets pissed enouogh at our country and we need some place to flea. Oh and a southener may not have time to go to Canada.

Well, if you think an economy with somewhere around 7 million fewer workers is a good idea then you're not very well-informed.

That's not to say it wouldn't be a WHOLE lot better if we had decent border control and only LEGAL workers in this country.
