With my first my bowels naturally eliminated before labor and I didn't poop on the table. I was also eating lighter meals about a day or so before because I sensed I would be in labor soon and I didn't want to have a full tummy.
With my second I tried inducing with castor oil and that eliminated not only my bowels but every bit of energy and hydration I had. I didn't go into labor until 24 hours later. I didn't have a bowel movement with that one either but I really don't recommend the castor oil induction method.
Honestly, I was so focused on pushing the baby out that if I had pooped during pushing I would not have cared one bit. One you start getting contractions you may have some loose bowels movements and that should clean you out.
If you want to do an enema it's up to you but wait until you are sure that early labor won't clean your bowels out for you. Nothing would be worse than giving it to yourself and then having the runs on top of it.
I hope you have a smooth delivery!

It happens to some women. While it may be embarrassing, keep in mind that the doctors and nurses you and your wife would be with have seen numerous other patients. I would think that they would clean it up right away and not even say a thing about it. They have dealt with other "embarrassing" issues, too. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It happens to some women, but not everyone. After all, the same muscles that are used to bear down for the baby are the same when one has a bowel movement. And no, it would not cause you to get sent out of the room. Congrats on your new addition, and I wish you two luck :)

When I went into labor with my second son, they gave me an enema. I'm assuming it was because I had lunch prior to my labor starting. It only made me poo once, and it came so suddenly. If I had to do it again, I guess I would. It cleans out your system, and you wont have to worry about an "accident" happening during the birth of your baby.

I didn't have an enema, I don't really think I would have let them give me one either.. But I pooped anyway, not a lot though.. But you have to think about it you're trying to push a baby out of your vagina, and your butt hole is right there too, somethings bound to come out.. But all my pooping was for nothing, I wound up having a c-section... The Dr's and nurses don't care, they prob won't even tell you unless you ask, or someone else in the room tells you (like my husband told me) They just clean it up and move on... When you're pushing you won't care, ya just wanna get that baby out!

My wife was given one and she really wasn't asked if she wanted it or not.
Back then you weren't really given a choice. Afterward she said she was glad they did because she didn't have any problems during delivery.
I know that you have other things on your mind when you are trying to push that baby out but it seems that the thought of having your bowels empty during the process hangs in the back of your mind and you are fearful of an embarrassing accident.
Don't let it bother you, the staff are ready for anything and that to them is a minor problem. There are more critical things that they have their minds on.

i did not. i've heard this is not a good idea. you know...i'm sure this happens (it didn't happen to me) and i'm sure the med. staff is prepared. i don't think it's anything like you're imagining though. also...they're supposed to empty your bladder before you push or something. well, they didn't have time to do this for me and i REALLY had to pee. (i couldn't go when i was in labor because of an internal heart monitor for the baby) i didn't pee at all when i was delivering. afterward, the dr. straight-cathed me and i had a FULL bladder. it made me think that delivering the baby kind of blocked off those functions. i wouldn't worry about it too much if i were you. but...if you do decide to do this, i wouldn't without mentioning it to your dr. first.

No they didn't give me anything and I didn't use it either. I had a feeling like I was going to but the only thing that came out was the baby.

when i had a baby they did do the enema and the shaving- its not done now. i think they did it then because they always asked if you have eaten- you should be ok- but in doubt talk to your ob dr.

It wasn't offered, and I didn't ask...
Have no clue if I did during delivery, and don't care, either. There's lots of things you grow to not care about when you are pregnant - like not being embarrassed, cuz you can't control everything, and things just happen.
