Fermentation is the process that converts sugar to alcohol and carbon dioxide. Any sugary liquid, with a suitable yeast, will ferment and produce alcohol.

The fermentation process requires strict cleanliness in order that wild yeasts do not get in on the act and turn your brew to vinegar.

Therefore, you will need to clean your equipment and sterilise it before use. A bung, with a U tube, and a little water in it will allow the carbon dioxide to escape during fermentation but will stop any air getting near the brew while there is still sugar present.

The key to the process is to get a good quality yeast, strong enough to survive long periods, and not to die when the alcohol content becomes too strong. The temperature during fermentation is critical as well.

Once you have alcohol you can distill it (it is illegal I think), to separate out the water from the pure alcohol. This is called moonshine! Yeeeeeeeeee haw!

By adding yeast to fermentable sugars.
You can then take that alcohol and concentrate it by distillation.

You buy a BEER kit. Barley, honey or sugar, hops and yeast will do the trick.
