I had it back Feburary-March. And it was pretty bad. It was was on my left leg...I cut it while shaving a couple of years back right near down to the bone and it never healed. I was put on Clindamycin twice(the best medicine for it) and helped it. I kept it covered up and all I have now is a big scar. I got the staph infection from artificial nails and scratching my leg. There was this woman in Charleston, Sc and she had a pedicure. She got MRSA from the pedicure because the tubs were filthy .

While most health care professionals are familiar with hospital-borne MRSA (methecillian resistant staphlococcus aurues) which is also known as "MRSA-HA" which is know for being a very resistant, but not USUALLY lifethreatening infection; there has been an outbreak of community accquired MRSA (MRSA_CA) which can progress to the "flesh-eating" bacteria and is POTENTIALLY life-threatening. What is good news, however, is that this strain of community-aquired MRSA is often readily treated with more standard anti-biotics. Advanced cases, however, do require heavier duty antibiotics.

There have been many news breaks about this and this is not the common MRSA that occurs in the hospital. This can be readily researched online.

ADDENDUM: So I am not qualified to answer questions about MRSA...I wonder what makes that so? Well, it couldn't be my extensive background in:
Biology
Physiology
Pathology
Pharmacology
Epidemiology
Wound care

And it certainly couldn't be the fact that I have to pass the same infectious disease competnecies as the RNs on a yearly basis? And it certainly couldn't be that when my employer issued a warning that I read the darn CDC report myself! Sorry, I'm not trying to be argumentative (regarding the commment below), but I do defend my degree and expertise...PTs go way beyond the musculoskeletal system!

Oh, I can't start an IV or know what dose of antibiotics to administer...maybe that doesn't make me qualified.

Methisillin Resistant Staphleococcus Aureus. It can be fatal if it settles settles in the lungs amoung the very young and very old. Methicillin is only one antibiotic, though. Others such as Vancomycin are effective in treating MRSA.

What do you want to know about MRSA? I'm a nurse and I have patients with it, I deal with it on a daily basis and I can tell you whatever you need to know. E-mail me at nurselmh@sbcglobal.net

The person above me, "cdptgt" is a physical therapist and is not as qualified to give you information as I am.
