Depends how old you are and what level of skill you want to get to. But generally no - at least 2 or maybe 3 times a week would be better.

Eh... sound like your instructor is a excellent con artist. I won't be surprise if he teach 4 or 5 days a week and all of his students take class once a week. This will allows him to slow the process to black belt down so he can find more mistake in your form and it'll take you longer to get use to balance and everything. So your instructor will get more moneys out of you in long run.
I train 5 or 6 day a week and easiest day is two hours and that still leave me exhausted. I normally train about 3 or 4 hours a day.
My belif is if you're not a serious martial artist and want to have fun or learn self defense, you need to train at least 4 days a week for about a hour and half minimum. This will allow you get use to the martial arts, develope skill, and get your moneys worth.

I do not study TKD. I feel that once a week is not enough.
We have three classes a week, everyone is expected to attend all three. The nights we don't have class I still work out.
A serious martial arts student should be studying daily. My fear is that people go to class once a week, they don't work out the rest of the week and then something real happens in the street. This person who has not trained sufficiently is going to get a hard lesson in false confidence.
The key to being a good student is in the quality and frequency of training.
(not just martial arts but all things)

If you are a beginner, and not very sporty, then once a week is well enough for the first year.
After that, a few years of two or three times a week, with additional workouts alone, and you'll start getting somewhere.
Don't forget, that even if you train every day, it takes years before you get any good in a martial art.

as a beginner once a week will not at all be enough. STOP!! OK try to look at it this way. you ready here we go.
so you go to work on Monday your thinking about that raise that tom got or what ever it is you think about at work, Tuesday you spend either with your significant other or trying to get one, Wednesday you go to class Thursday you might practice what you've learned, but by Friday your too interested in what your doing for the weekend. you may have only attended class one day that week and that might have been all you got out of it. a master trains them self all the time. you have to do the same.
Next!! lets say you are a strong person willing to keep up the practice. you practice and practice all week long in what you learned in class. next class rolls around and you've noticed you have been doing it wrong. or even worse (many techniques even at a beginners stage can be dangerous for someone to practice with out a teacher present {see note below}) you try something that you've learned with a bit of power and blow out your knee, now not only can't you train but you can't do anything til you heal up.
the more a teacher is around during your beginning years the more solid foundation your going to build, with that learning becomes easier and safer.

It's enough if you just want to have a small workout or chat up the girls/guys in class. If you are serious about the martial art, 2 hours at a time and 5 times a week should be the minimum commitment.

I have been doing TKD for 8 months. At my club, it is recomended that we train twice a week. I started out at twice a week, and now train at the cub 4 times a week and once a week with the State team in preperation for National competitions.

I would suggets that you train at least twice a week and more if you can. The reason for this is that if you train once a week it will take you longer to grade and you will also see you peers get their belts much quicker that you which could be most disheartening and may make you want to quit.

It's ok to train once a week in class, but that means you'll have to practice that much harder at home, plus with more time in class, you'll get better direction on applying your techniques.
And if you wanna be serious, you gotta train serious.
