If not, do you complain about how illegals get free healthcare, and you do not?

I'm a chef, never worked for fast food, and had worked since I was 13. NEVER had healthcare until this year, because small businesses can't afford it. Places like McDonald's use benefits to lure people into those positions. I had to take a risk on my health versus my future. My gamble paid off in terms of excellent experience that got me this job, and I didn't get sick during those 12 years. This is the likely scenario of uninsured americans. And I'm glad I supported small business along the way

I have healthcare through my company and it is good healthcare.

I do not believe in nationalized healthcare, just look at the countries that do have it. You get substandard care. I dont want to have to get substandard care, just because some people cannot get their own health plan coverage.

Socialized healthcare offers substandard care to those who can't afford to pay for better doctors.

The average wait time for a CAT scan in Canada is 6-9 months. No matter how urgent. Canadian employees at my brother's firm pay for insurance in America and go to doctors on our side of the border. An executive at the firm had an infant who's soft plate on top of the head hardened a few months after it was born - this could have been cartiledge or the bone formed early - instead of waiting the 7 mos. for a cat scan there they brought the child to America the same week and got the scan. The girl would have been blind in 7 mos if they had waited - the early formation of bone on the top of the skull prohibits the brain from growing. When this is not diagnosed in time the child is usually dead by 10.

Socialized medicine fails the people who need it most - let's say this was the child of a janitor, who couldn't have afforded to come to America for immediate care.

What incentive does the average med student have to go thru all those years of school and training if they are going to have a (fairly low) salary cap? Don't be overly altruistic and say because they care about the world - the majority of doctors do it for the money and prestige.

My biggest problem with the Illegal Aliens is that they are sucking up free medical care at clinics when this could be used for the American working poor.

No and no.

It seems like a logical choice for a civilized society to have socialized health care. However, if you look at the models of socialized health care, you find too many incidents where the entire health care system has been brought back due to red tape. I have personally talked to English and Canadian people to hear of stories of delayed surgeries until their need shows enough cause. I knew personally of a man needing a heart bypass and waiting 7 months in the process.

If you look at the term, socialized health care, it begs to ask what's best for society? Too many doctors would claim that a Phase IV breast cancer patient is too far along to even receive treatment. Is that the answer you would like to hear because society has decided on that?

In America, a doctor would act on that Phase IV breast cancer with radical and probably expensive treatment, regardless of what society deems as appropriate. Although it may suffer in terms of high insurance premiums for all, the individual gains from it.

I do think there is a large amount of American society which goes without health care. But they must deem it necessary for themselves and act appropriately.

I am impressed that Starbucks is willing to provide health care even for part-time workers. If you can't make a triple espresso over ice to save yourself, why should society be responsible for it?

Yes health care for those that can't get it . But there should be limited and regulated. If you can afford your own health care plan , then you should buy it .. You will probably receive better care anyway , because you know how the Government is , handling a bureaucrat . I support it , yes , but not how it will be run . We have to have some common sense in Washington to set this up first . First and for most you would have to be a American Citizen

Illegals drive the price of health care up now as it is. I certainly would like to be able to afford my own health care at affordable prices but the illegals have ruined that too. If you want socialized medicine- talk to a Canadian with health problems. They'll tell you their system sucks and that's why so many of them come to the U.S. for treatment. At least it's done legally. I have nothing against people wanting to come here and live- just do it correctly and stop scoffing at our laws. Their demonstrations on Labor Day drove the point home to me that they show nothing but brazened disrespect for the U.S. and it's citizens. What a slap in the face. They spit in my face and I say get out.... then some bleeding heart comes along and tries to fix things but all they do is make things worse. Right... socialized medicine. Dumb idea.
Have a great day!!!

No. My mother is unable to qualify for health insurance because of her bad health, so she goes to the county hospital and clinics for health care. What a joke this is! She has to wait 5 hours to get her prescriptions and is put on a wait list for months to see a doctor. I can only imagine this to be true for everyone if the government ran things.

I have not heard enough about it to comment. But yes, I do complain that people who are here illegally get free health care, and those born here and paying taxes here have to suffer if they cannot afford heath care, because that is just not right.

Could a US citizen go to another country and get free health care, while they ignore their own citizens' needs?

I would have to see the plan.

Do you realise that everyone in the USA has access to emergency medical care at public hospitals regardless of ability to pay?
