Yes it is bad. Dogs can't break down chocolate quickly enough and it can become toxic to them and give them a heart attack. Baker's chocolate is the worst. White chocolate is the least threatening. The reason why they say you shouldn't even give a dog any chocolate is because they will love it and start to crave it which will then greater the chance at them getting to more chocolate that will become poisonous to them. They say about a pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20lb dog.

It depends on the kind of chocolate. It is never a GOOD idea to give them chocolate, and you should make sure your dog cannot reach it, but depending on the kind of chocolate, the risks vary. For a small dog, even milk chocolate may cause some problems. For large dogs, it would take a lot of milk chocolate (the kind we eat as candy, in candy bars, etc.) to cause a problem, but it can still upset their tummy. I've seen large dogs eat whole bags of milk chocolate like Hershey's Kisses and have nothing but a little diarrhea, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S OK! For any dog, bakers chocolate/semisweet chocolate/dark chocolate, etc... is MUCH more concentrated and can cause lots of problems. So, in short, YES it is bad to GIVE your dog chocolate, so don't do it.

Chocolate is bad for dogs. It does depend on the type of chocolate...I have read that bakers chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate are the worst kinds and are more likely to do harm than milk chocolate. I still don't let my dog have chocolate. I do know people that let their dogs eat it in small amounts and it never hurt them. My friend's grandmother had a dog that would say mama for M&M's and that dog lived forever.

it is bad, however it depends on the size of the dog as to how much will cause any effect. a friend of mine has an aredale that ate a pount of fudge with no side effects. bakers chocolate is definately much worse than just a regular chocolate bar. but a large dog would have to ingest an enormous amount to cause serious damage.

Not a good idea. Our mini dachsund got a hold of some halloween candy. Alot of it. Our vet told us to give him 1tsp. of peroxide. That induced vomiting. He also told us that the kind of candy he ate won't kill him, but the bakers chocolate and your more expensive chocolate will kill your dog.

well people say that if you give a dog chocolate or cocoa it will get sick and die, but i don't think that's true cuz i have four dogs right now....and i've grown up with at least three at all times my whole life (i once had 38 dogs at one time)....and i've given them chocolate many times before and they're still healthy. hope that helped.

Bakers chocolate can kill your dog. Other kinds of chocolate most likely will just make your dog sick, but could be fatal.

It depends. What reaction you are looking for, if you want to kill your dog then by all means give it chocolate.

They say it's bad, but our dog used to love chocolate covered peanuts - she lived to be 10 yrs old.... I wouldn't chance it, but I wouldn't freak it the dog got a little, either.

I don't know what's in it that causes the trouble, but you can kill a dog with chocolate.
My mother-in-law's neighbor had a huge german shepherd that everyone was afraid of. Mostly the dog was a big baby, but just looked menacing. She kept him fenced in constantly, and he wasn't a bother to anyone....but someone evidentally had a problem with him. They fed him one candy bar, and the dog died that same night.
