It became illegal because the liberal left wants to look "tough on crime." So they fabricated the "hate crime" idea, and claim that for some reason, it is more hateful for a murderer to kill someone of a race different from their own, than it is to kill someone from their own ethnic group. It doesn't make sense; dead is dead.

Racism is an emotion, a personal choice, a lifestyle based on irrational thought and illogical stereotyping. You can't pass laws against emotions, therefor racism is not illegal. You're thinking about discrimination, which is a product of racism. And illegal, though practiced every day.
Your question is an excellent example of how the mind of a racist thinks. Illogically, irrationally. And since you are in the Etiquette category, just plain rude!!

In the U.S. it is not illegal to be racist; however be careful what you do and what you say.
Yes we have freedom of speech; however there are laws that go around that costitutional right to get you for hate crimes. Also harrassment is a crime. I can go on and on, however I think you get my point.
Pretty much if somebody gets offended by something you say you could get in some trouble with the law in two ways (unlike sexual harrassment when it's only one way). It's concidered harrassment and a hate crime.

BTW any poor person with smarts can benefit from the UNCF, it just kept its name but whitey can benefit too and go to an historically black college to boot.
the NAACP fights for the advancement of AMERICANS, it just started out fighting for the COLORED folks.
and the KKK is quite free to rally. Hell, in California they had a Jewish lawyer defend their right to rally.
