Instead of focusing on yourself, look at others around you and see what you can do to help. Service to others makes the world a better place, and can help anyone to see their lives more clearly. It will help you to appreciate what you have and to not want more. You will be content with what you have and not need to go go go to get get get, your life will slow down.

~if you really want to slow down, then just stop answering your phone, and tell friends/family that you're going on a short vacation. (you don't need to tell them that you're just taking a short vacation @ home - away from them. It's no one elses business that you've decided to re-group...) then:
~ sit in an emergency room / children's hospital / ICU / cancer ward... over night. (you will appreciate your health.)
~ sit in a bar (without drinking - other than water, oj, soda...) from about 10:00pm until closing, and just simply WATCH everyone! (trust me; you WILL appreciate your own SANITY & STABILITY!)
~ work @ a homeless shelter / for the American Red Cross doing disaster relief... (eye opener!)
~ go to a video store & rent a ton of depressing/"life changing" movies. (True life is best - I suggest "Hotel Rowanda"!) Often, while living vicariously thru others, you learn to appreciate your own life more.
~ choose to help someone else who's life seems to be far more of a stuggle than your own...
I'm just guessing here, but, I bet after all of that... you will grately appreciate the life you've been blessed with. If not, then just click on my avatar... maybe that will help you see the light...

This may sound lame but I stop what I am doing, go outside, look up at the sky and smile, even if I have to force it. It always gives me pause and I start to think about whats really important. Good luck.

Take a weekend off and head to the mountains or desert, take your Bible read and pray. Make sure and enjoy the glory that God put around you at the same time.

My dad found a spot in a park (we live in IL, which is pretty fast paced) It is his special spot. He goes there to pray or write or play his guitar and sometimes just to sit. It is serene. and mostly quiet. It helps when you find your own "special spot." somewhere that lets you relax a little. I also found journaling aka rambling on paper helps.

stay home with coffee and a book. close the curtains and just chill out.
Or go for a drive in the country or take a hike up a mountain.
Makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

Do things you enjoy go on a vacation, go skiing, cliff diving. Also go to a hospital and visit old people and see how theyve lived their lives to the fullest.

Play with children...they know how to relax. Heck, they spend hours in the sandbox! lol
Or volunteer at a food pantry, that will teach you to count your blessings!
