Do you mean fleas and tics on your cat or in your house? For the cat, go to the vet and get some Advantage or Frontline. Before going to the vet, give the cat a bath. I wouldn't suggest a flea and tic shampoo since the insecticides can be toxic to the cat. A regular shampoo works fine since it drowns the fleas anyway. Comb the cat with a flea comb very thoroughly before AND after the bath. If the infestation is severe, the vet can administer a Capstar tablet, which kills fleas in minutes.

For your home, there are specially formulated carpet powders, or you could bomb. I saw someone on here say she used Dawn dish soap in a steam cleaner and it killed the fleas in her carpet extremely well, but I have no idea if it would work for everyone. She recommended rinsing very well as the Dawn can leave a film if you don't.

Wash all bedding and pillows (throwing some out wouldn't be a bad idea, either, depending on how bad the infestation is).

I am against using any type of chemical for removing fleas or ticks, so I recommend getting a metal nit comb (the kind from a chemists for removing head lice) and combing through the fur twice daily until the fleas have gone, then every other day to keep them at bay. Have a glass of water nearby to dip the comb into remove the fleas that you catch, this drowns them!

It is very theraputic for the cat and yourself!

you can use any of the collars or medications (injested or put onto the spine). my dog has some allergies, so I give her brewers yeat and garlic pills. it's a natural flea/tick/mosquito deterrent, also really good for the coat. 1 pill/ 10 lbs. she thinks they're treats and loves to eat them. i haven't had to use any flea medication on her since last year and she has never had fleas, and we go camping and to the park all the time. it's a good alternative if you like things like that.

The best thing I've found for getting rid of fleas on animals is Revolution. It can be used on anything (dogs, cats, ferrets, ginuea pigs, rabbits). Not only that, but it kills all kinds of nasty parasites (fleas, ticks, mites, maggots etc)

According to a friend: a guy from a local bug company told her to use Dawn dish washing liquid -- the original blue variety, not the kind with bleach. She tried it, and it worked! No more fleas! Don't know if it'd work on ticks...
