I'm having a party and want everything just right. Should the paper unroll such that it unrolls behind the roll, or should it unroll over the top.

To the front is the standard (and more practical) way of doing it. It is easier to cut to how much paper you want. Also, you can try to fold both of each side to form a V-shape infront as an added touch! (hotels do this) Perfect if you are having guests.

consider what indians do.... dont use toilet people at all.. instead supply your guest with a lota. They use it to pour water on the areas that need cleaning... and then air dry

Lota is a Hindi and Urdu word for 'pot'. Though it may refer to any pot, the term is most commonly employed for a container filled with water to facilitate the cleaning of one's anal region after defecation.

Cleaning is accomplished by holding the lota in the right hand and pouring water on the area to be cleansed, while the left hand is used to clean the area as the water comes down. The assignment of tasks to each hand is important, as the use of lotas is derived from Islamic traditions where the right hand is usually used to start most everyday tasks (such as eating or drinking) and thus should not make contact with the area to be cleaned.

In most South Asian and Middle Eastern countries, the use of lotas is considered to provide a more thorough cleaning than simply using toilet paper.

Lotas are also sometimes used to supplicate in ablution

To the front. And hold the end in one hand, and stop the roll with your elbow, and tear the paper off so that your dirty hand doesn't touch the roll of clean paper.

If it rolls from behind you wont be able to cut the piece you are trying to get,and it will keep rolling instead! I'll give you something else to wonder about ...what would happen if buckets didn't have a cone shape and instead it was a cylinder! ;)

From the front. It's easier to reach and then your hands don't touch the underside of the roll or the wall.

To the front. It's easier to find the beginning of the roll.

I prefer for it to roll from behind. It's easier access compared to reaching for it and having to feel around for the start
