Alot of Christians preach alot about what is sinful and what is God's will.......do they ever think about gluttony? How do they avoid it? If one sin is no greater than the next, why aren't gluttons attacked by the religious right?

Gluttony is NEVER specifically mentioned as being a sin in the Bible. The "Seven Deadly Sins" is a man-made list. (To see the real list, read Proverbs 6:16-19).

However, anything that becomes your idol is idolatry, and is a sin. So you really have to look at the root of the person's gluttony: are they a glutton because they worship food, or do they overeat because of an emotional or physical problem? People in the first category are idolators and commiting a sin. People in the second category are harming themselves, but are not sinning.

Being overweight is not, in and of itself, a sin. Remember, Paul wrote at 1 Cor. 6:12: "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."

Peace.

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.

If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.

First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.

How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work?

It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.

One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.

Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.

If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.

If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.

How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.

Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.

If this is the case then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.

How likely is that????

Think about it.

The idea of sin is simple nonsense; a lie made up about God by religion.

That's why judgement is going to be done by God, not man. Don't be concerned with what other's try to judge you about, but know God sees all. It is obvious from the scriptures that you should not judge others lest you judge yourself, and when you preach .... Romans 2:21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?

What makes sin so sinful?
In my humble opinion, any time someone deliberately does something knowing that it is going to cause harm, that person is sinning.
What makes sin so sinful is the harm that it causes.

yes gluttony is a sin. however, no sinner should be attacked,no matter what the sin is. we are supposed to encourage and lift up, and give counsel. never judge or attack.

i think about this everytime i step into my "holiness" church and look around and see that 90% of them are obese. yeah, it's a sin and no worse or better than any other sin. and these "holiness" people believe you have to live sin-free to get into heaven. hopefully, this is one sin they realize they have and are working on it. but i'm a sinner too, so i can't think that they're beneath me. they're probably in better spiritual shape than i am, who knows? Only God....
