I fully support getting rid of Bush and this ineffective Republican Congress but sorry but I feel we might be taking things too far with our full support of certain illegal immigration issues. I myself have a Mexican gf and I have not ill will against legal Mexican and Latinos. But certain legislation especially in California and certain city's almost seem to PROMOTE illegal immigration. I would really hate to agree with the Republican's but are we really a little soft on "illegal immigrants'?

I think some of us feel conflicted between sympathy for the "illegals" and anger at the hypocrisy of the large corporations and conservative pols who wink/wink, nod/nod at illegal immigration because it benefits them so much. The entire agribusiness industry would not grind to a stop if illegal immigration was stopped and many illegals deported, their profit margin would just go down. The same would go for hospitality, construction, and many other fields. Through subcontracting and many other ruses, both big and small businesses are able to keep labor costs down on low-skill, low-pay jobs.

I have a great deal of sympathy for the victims at the bottom end of the ladder here - both those who risk their lives trying to attain a decent living for their families and those legal immigrants or native born workers who wind up getting paid far less than they should because an undocumented worker costs two thirds of what a legal employee would.

But I have no sympathy whatever for those who employ them.

If Democrats would get their act together and take a firm stand against illegal immigration and push a plan to secure the borders and deal with the illegals we have now, I think they'd make huge gains in November - if not at 1994 levels, then close to it. The mood of the electorate is ripe for such a tidal wave, but right now it looks like the Dems are going to squander the opportunity. Just my personal obervation.

It is people like you that are making this nation the way it is today. People that are to stupid to say they don't agree with another idea, just because it is not the idea of their affiliation. How pathetic. Why do you have to be all democrat or all republican? Why can't you look at the information at hand and make your own decision? A good idea is a good idea, regardless of the political affiliation it came from. That is exactly why I choose no affiliation, because both sides screw up, and more often than not the, the middle road is the best choice.

As a former California Democrat (I now live in the Bahamas) I can't see how ANY one can allow ILLEGAL immigration. Do they think the USA is a bottomless pit of money and aid and support?

What BS are they arguing now in good ol Cali? BTW, aren't the repubs in charge there or is it Arnold alone?)

I think the whole situation is out of control. I immigrated in the 1950's, then we had to have a sponsor who signed for you in case you would go beg the government. Secondly you could not be a communist, they even checked with my neighbor, thirdly you could not have TB, I almost did not pass because of scars left by pleurisy, and mostly a number of visas were given every year to every country. Italy had the most numbers then. We , in Belgium, had fewer ones. It took me 4 years to get on USA soil , two of them I waited in Canada to be able to cross at Lake Champlain. How many people would follow this route today? How can we curtail it again? We can't.

You are so right.....I am not a bleeding heart liberal, but I have Democratic sensibility. I believe that we should be tougher on illegal immigration and tougher on crime. Where is that middle-of-the-road political party that we are all looking for where we don't have to subscribe to certain things that are current political parties subscribe to.

If Democrats would support tax breaks they would get one more voter, sadly they like my money too much and that outweighs other issues for me.
