I don't think that ethics has to do with this. Buying local, organic and fair trade items are a choice a consumer makes. Although I do the best I can to purchase organic and local produce, it is not always practical. One has to understand that the definition of organic now is changing. Despite a product being organic, we have to look at the whole operation. How much fossil fuels does it take to bring the product in? Walmart now has decided to sell organic produce. From where? How much does it cost to bring it in? Is it viable for the farmer to sell to walmart being that their prices are so low?

I am always conscience of the products I buy. I agree that a lot of produce actually tastes better if it is organic. However, like I mentioned before, the term "organic" is broad and the definition is changing. Even though it is a label put on the packaging, it doesn't always mean that it is correct to buy it.

Yes to all of the above.
I buy most clothing and household supplies from thrift shops, as I don't like supporting corporations that exploit slave labour in 3rd world countries.
I am from New Zealand-temporarily in Canada but usually live in Australia, where I am considered a chronic greenie(you call us treehuggers) and admit to being an ecological fascist (but quietly.)There is a website called " turn the tide" where you can make contact with likeminded people.
I participate in community food forest and wwoof when I travel.
Hope this inspires.

I am from florida and I understand all of what you are talking about and yet I think about none of it when I am shopping. I think about what is heathiest for my family, what we like, and what is the best value.
